A FORMER Olympic torch bearer has invited her fellow torch bearers for a get together on Thursday, June 23.

It will mark four years to the day since the torch’s visit to Accrington in the run-up to the London Olympics.

Anne Ellwood carried the torch through the town in 2012, and is keen to mark the fourth anniversary of the occasion.

She said: “I was honoured to carry it in my home town and intend to mark the occasion with an invite to fellow local torchbearers who carried it in Accrington, Oswaldtwistle and Blackburn or elsewhere.

“It would be great to remember the day as it’s something that will never be forgotten for us all.

“If anyone wishes to meet me outside Accrington Town Hall at 12.30pm on June 23, we can all have a catch up on the journeys since that fantastic day.”

Anne was nominated to be an Olympic torchbearer by her daughter.
