EVENTS DID TOWNS PROUD

-

AS a local councillor I would like to express my appreciation of two local events that took place on the same weekend.

First of all the magnificent production of Les Misérables at the Civic Arts Centre, Oswaldtwistle, given by ReAct Academy, a youth drama group which rehearses there regularly.

The four performances were complete sell-outs and at £10 a ticket it was most certainly value for money.

The cast ranged in age from young children through to late teens. The standard of performance was very high, with some lovely singing voices.

The commitment and enjoyment of all the young people was obvious to see.

I would like to thank all involved in the production – please let us have more shows of this calibre.

The second event was the Armed Forces Day event at Oak Hill Park, organised entirely by volunteers who had worked tirelessly for over a year to arrange it and were supported by the Accrington Branch of Royal British Legion.

Many local charitable organisations had stalls there and there was continuous musical entertainment on stage all day, culminating in the Accrington Pals’ Prom Centenary Concert in the evening, featuring the East Lancashire Concert Band and the Rossendale Ladies’ Choir.

The volunteer organisers, artists and sponsors are too numerous to mention individually but I would like to thank in particular Anne Elwood, Michael Hughes and Cath Holmes for all their sterling efforts throughout the year.

They’re talking about making it an annual event. Coun Judith Addison Catlow Hall Street Oswaldtwistle
