The Rotary Club of Accrington

-

At the recent meeting 20 members and five guests celebrated the installation of president David Duckworth.

Immediate past president John Bracewell gave us a reminder of some of the highlights of his year in office and thanked everybody for their support.

He presented David with the chain of office and in turn was given the past president’s badge.

President David thanked John warmly for his service to the club over the past 12 months and stressed that over the coming year he wanted us all to ‘enjoy Rotary’ in all we do.

Vice-president Helen Birtwistle was presented with her insignia.

Helen will start her year of office in July 2017.

In the past 12 months 25 members have contributed to the jam jar collection for the eradication of polio that raised £700.

This will be continued and it is hoped for an even bigger total in a year’s time.

We are supporting Whalley in Bloom by helping their members to distribute planters.

These are being delivered to flood victims as they return to their homes.

Malcolm Baldwin has been appointed district governor for Rotary District 1190 which comprises 69 Rotary clubs located in Lancashire and Cumbria.

It is a great honour for our club as he is the first member to hold this office.

His chosen charity for his year of office is Blood Bikes in Lancashire and Cumbria.

The next meeting of the club was due to be at the Dunkenhalgh yesterday, Thursday.
