Hands-on for a hotdog treat

-

GIRL Rainbows got their hands messy as they learned how to make sausages.

Twenty-five youngsters from the 1st and 2nd Clayton-le-Moors Rainbows groups were treated to a visit by butchers from Ye Olde Sausage Shop, based at The Black Horse Food Emporium in Accrington.

Amber Cowell, leader of the 1st Clayton Rainbows, said: “Firstly the Rainbows smelt all the different seasonings and bindings that went into a sausage.

“They also learned where the meat comes from and why all the different ingredients are needed.

“They then mixed everything together and if mixed properly you could hold it over your head.

“Once mixed, all the sausage meat went into a machine, was linked and made into delicious sausages.”

Amber said the girls then had the opportunity to eat the sausages they had made in a hot dog style bun and ‘take one home for their supper’.

She added: “The activity was a brilliant ending to this academic year and all the girls certainly enjoyed the night.

“So a massive thank you from all the leaders and Rainbows to The Black Horse Food Emporium for organising it and of course to Ye Olde Sausage Shop for making sausages with us.

ne Rainbow, aged six, said: “The pork didn’t smell very nice but it tasted delicious.”

The Rainbows meet on Monday and Thursday from 6pm to 7pm.
