WHAT you’ve been saying on our Facebook page:

TWO new Dominos takeaways are set to create 45 jobs (‘New takeaways on cards with creation of 45 jobs’, July 22) Valerie Edmondson: Accrington has become a town of food outlets, takeaways, fast food outlets, cafes and lower end restaurants. What happened to this once bustling quaint market town, where the large and well-named stores once felt privileged to open there? So very sad. Pamela McCullagh: At last gluten free pizza in Accy it will save me driving to Burnley or Blackburn, and 45 jobs, surely that’s good news. Ali Holmes: Woo hoo Accrington’s town centre will be saved after all. Come on, really? Another junk food shop, more rubbish that will be thrown on the floor.

CAMPAIGNERS defeated in battle to save giant Rhyddings park tree (‘Campaigners fail to save tree from chop’, July 22) Malik Metcalfe: If people put this much effort and soul into matters which actually affected people, this town would be a better place. Instead they’re crying over a tree which they’ll probably never mention again, once this has blown over. Jackie Watts: This is yet another issue where tax payers’ wishes are being ignored, the independent arboriculture consultant states that “the tree could treble in size over the next 100 years [and] could get infected with honey fungus”. All of this states COULD in all areas except the cost of replanting a 33ft replacement. This iconic tree when it goes from the Oswaldtwistle landscape, as it will because the councillors who voted will ensure it does, will be very sadly missed. Paula Duxbury-Lowe: Very sad indeed, I hope the improvements are worth it. As a visitor to the park for over 40 years I am disheartened by all of this. David David Ainsworth: Get a grip, it’s not the last tree on earth is it?
