Mothers Union members praised for hospital ‘comfort bag’ donations
KIND-HEARTED Mothers Union members from Clayton-le-Moors have donated items to family members and carers visiting critically ill loved ones in hospital.
For their annual community project, members of the All Saints group came up with the idea to donate a selection of toiletries for use by relatives at Royal Blackburn Hospital who choose to stay and support patients.
Union members Mary O’Rourke, Margaret Sims, Christine Cairns and Hazel Cross have now visited the hospital to personally handover a total of 62 ‘Comfort Bags’ to hospital bereavement care nurse, Erin Bolton.
Each of the bags were handmade by Denise Ashton and Christine Cairns and her daughter, Jaqui Houlker and contains toiletries including toothpaste, disposable toothbrush, shower gel, deodorant and wipes.
Margaret Sims said: “As soon as our Members heard about Comfort Bags, they got to work immediately.
“Mothers Union members want to help communities and families whose lives have met with adversity and we hope our bags bring people comfort at a very difficult time.”
Erin Bolton praised the Mothers Union saying: “I want to say thank you to all the members of the All Saints Mothers Union who donated items for and created these beautiful comfort bags.
“When someone stays in hospital overnight with a family member or close friend, the last thing they need first thing in the morning is worrying about having a wash and brush up to face the day ahead.
“Thanks to the All Saints Mothers Union and their beautiful Comfort Bags, more families will benefit from a Comfort Bag at a very tough time in their life.”
