Appeal to trace last steps of tragic teenager
DE T E CTIVE S i nvestigating the death of a 17-year-old girl have released new images of her in Clayton-leMoors on the night she was injured, in a fresh appeal for information.
Shannon Aspin died in Royal Preston Hospital on Tuesday, August 2 – five days after being admitted with a fractured skull.
It is believed that on Thursday, July 28 Shannon walked from an address on Rutland Close, in Clayton-le- Moors onto Whalley Road towards the junction with Burnley Road and then back down past Sparth House and Wilson’s playing fields.
She then continued towards Knightingales Garage in Great Harwood.
She was seen arguing with a man who was wearing a high visibility top at various points throughout her journey.
Later that evening Shannon, from Blackburn, was rushed to hospital from an address on St Gabriels Avenue in Blackburn at around 8.20pm.
Detectives are continuing their enquiries to try to ascertain exactly how Shannon was injured and are appealing to anyone with any information about what happened to her to come forward.
DI Julie Cross, of Blackburn CID, said: “Our investigation into Shannon’s death remains ongoing and we have released these new images of her on the night she sustained her injury in an attempt to establish exactly what happened to her.
“If anyone has any information at all which could help us ascertain exactly how this young girl sustained a fatal injury I would urge them to come forward.
“If you saw Shannon at any point on the night she was admitted to hospital then please do get in touch with us as soon as possible.
“Even the smallest piece of information you might have could greatly assist with our enquiries.”
A 21-year-old man from Blackburn who was arrested on suspicion of assault has been released on bail until October 21, pending further enquiries.
