GORDON CROSS

MR Gordon Arthur Robert Cross, of Wellington Court, Accrington, died suddenly at home on Sunday, July 31, aged 65.

During his life Gordon was a self-employed musician. In the good days he used to perform at countless gigs, travelling the length and breadth of Britain.

He would sometimes play as many as six or seven nights a week.

He was an avid musician and loved his bands, especially Dire Straits, Smokey and also Rod Stewart.

Prior to moving to Lancashire in the mid 80s Gordon previously lived in Reading and also Dumfries in Scotland.

In his spare time Gordon was a pigeon fancier and he would also spend time teaching his family to play the guitar.

Gordon was a dearly loved father of Rebecca, Arron, Jesse, Rachael, Shane, Chantelle, Lauren, Ashley and Nathan and also a dear brother to Linda, Colin and Vernon.

His funeral service will take place at 1pm on Tuesday, August 16 at Accrington Cemetery Chapel followed by interment in Accrington Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome and can be sent c/o funeral director Barton and Hallworth Funeral Service, The Old Foxhill, 136 Union Road, Oswaldtwis­tle. MRS Diane Deaville, of Victoria Street, Oswaldtwis­tle died on Sunday, July 31, aged 63.

Diane was a retired food process worker.

In her spare time she enjoyed photograph­y, reading, birds, walking, nature and social media.

She leaves her partner Tony, son Christophe­r, grandsons Mackenzie, Kyle and Nathan, her sister Patricia and twin sister Christine.

A service will be held on Friday, August 12 at Accrington Crematoriu­m conducted by the minister Peter Cox at 2.20pm and then on to Burnley Road Bowling Club, Accrington for a celebratio­n of life.

ANN HUMPHREYS

FORMER devoted nurse Ann Humphreys, formerly of Church, Accrington, died on Sunday, August 7 peacefully in The Hollies, aged 84.

The dearly loved wife of the late Derwent, she was much loved mum of Jean, Roseann, Edie, Martin and the late Mary and Winnie, and also a loved mother-in-law, grandma and greatgrand­ma.

Ann was a carer and nurse at Calderston­es for many years and retired from there in 1992.

She was naturally caring and loved so much to look after others.

She was efficient and organised and liked to be on the go. A devoted mum, she adored being surrounded by her family.

When she was a young girl, Ann enjoyed spending time on the family allotment.

She and Derwent then had their own allotment and the children have many happy memories of their time helping out there.

A keen knitter, Ann made lovely garments for the children too when they were young.

She loved to read the Bible and the Seventh Day Adventist Church was a very big part of her life. She also enjoyed watching crime dramas on TV and medical programmes too.

Ann will be sadly missed by all her loving family.

The service will be held in Accrington Crematoriu­m Chapel on Monday, August 15 at 11am, then Ann will be laid to rest in the family plot at Dill Hall Cemetery.

THOMAS HENDERSON

IT is with great sadness that we have to announce the sad passing of Tommy.

Tommy, of Aysgarth Drive, Accrington passed away suddenly in the Royal Blackburn Hospital on Sunday, August 7, aged 62.

Tommy was a familiar face to many from running his own business, his beloved Sunbed Shop on Union Road in Ossy.

Prior to setting up on his own Tommy worked at The Star Paper Mill for 16 years.

When not at the shop Tommy loved attending to his Koi Carp fish in his garden.

He also enjoyed football and was a long time, loyal supporter of Blackburn Rovers. He also liked to watch Motor Racing and Formula 1.

Tommy lived life to the full and as and when he got the chance he would take Linda away on holiday.

He especially loved going on cruises, his favourite places included Spain, France, Cyprus and Greece.

Tommy was a true family man and loved nothing better than spending time with his much loved family.

The dearly loving husband to Linda of 40 years, he was a much loved father of Lucy, Sarah and Louise, a dear father-in-law of Alex and Scott, a treasured grandad of Tallulah, Thomas, Jordan, Elle and Harriet, a cherished great-grandad, a loving son-in-law of Jean and Thomas and a dear brother-in-law of Pauline and Dave.

Everyone who knew Tommy is welcome to attend his funeral service.

It will be held on Thursday, August 18 at 1.45pm at Accrington Cemetery Chapel prior to interment in Accrington Cemetery.

ANNE CLEGG

MRS Anne Clegg, of Belvedere Care Home – previously of Aitken Street where she had lived for over 90 years – passed away on Tuesday, August 2, aged 96.

Anne worked as a secretary for a number of years at Howard and Bullough’s. She also worked at Rist Wires and spent a few years as a cleaner at Moorhead School.

In her spare time Anne loved to go out walking; she was also a cat lover and enjoyed embroidery and tapestry.

She enjoyed holidays both here and abroad, particular­ly Greece. She was also fond of doing crosswords.

Wife of the late George Clegg, who passed away in 2005, she was mother to George Anthony Clegg.

A funeral service will take place at 11.40am on Friday, August 12, at Accrington Crematoriu­m, administer­ed by Rev Kevin Logan, followed by cremation.

LOUISE JACKSON

MISS Louise Jackson, of Avenue Parade, Accrington, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, aged 93.

Louie, as she was known, was born and raised in Rochdale and had moved to Accrington some 46 years ago.

She worked as a cleaner for a number of years at Woolworths in the town.

She was a lifelong member of St Paul’s CE Church, Accrington, and also devoted much of her spare time to helping with social events and bring and buy sales at the church.

She loved watching TV, especially the ‘soaps’, murder mysteries and Songs of Praise.

She also enjoyed listening to music – particular­ly Jim Reeves, Harry Seacombe and Engelbert Humperdink.

She attended Woodhaven Day Care Centre in Accrington for the last 18 years where she was much-loved and made many friends.

She was a member of St Anne’s Church Friendship Group.

She loved cats and especially her own cat ‘Chloe’ and also enjoyed the company of her friend’s dog Kerry.

She leaves her sister Marion and also nephews and nieces and very many close friends.

A funeral service was due to take place at 2pm on Thursday, August 11, at St Paul’s CE Church, Accrington, administer­ed by Rev Eric Booth, followed by burial at Accrington Cemetery, Burnley Road, Accrington.

The family are open to flowers or alternativ­ely donations to St Paul’s CE Church, Accrington, as desired, for Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queen’s Road, Accrington.

ROBIN HOWARTH

MR Robin Howarth, of Victoria Street, Church, died peacefully at home on Monday, August 1, aged 70.

Throughout his life Robin was a keen photograph­er and loved spending time with his family.

Robin sadly leaves his beloved partner Justina, his dearly-loved children John, David and Susan, his treasured grandchild­ren, his cherished greatgrand­children and also his dear sister Heather and niece Victoria.

‘Robin was much loved and will be very sadly missed.’

His funeral service will take place at 3pm on Friday, August 12, at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

EVELYN JOHNS

MRS Evelyn Johns, of Fern Gore Avenue, Accrington died at Nelson Manor Nursing Home on Sunday, July 31, aged 90.

In her early years she worked as a baker before later coming a home carer.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Blackburn and her hobbies included sewing, baking, arts and crafts and ballroom dancing.

Wife of the late Alexander, she leaves her daughter Janet, son David, son-in-law Paul, daughter-in-law Marianne, granddaugh­ters Jane and Isabel, grandson Richard and greatgrand­son Max.

Her funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 10 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiated by Bishop Forward followed by a burial at Accrington Cemetery. Flowers welcome. Funeral director: Wolstenhol­me Funeral Service, Accrington.

DAVID HINDLE

MR David Francis Hindle, of Cherry Tree Lane, Beverley, died on Wednesday, July 27, aged 54.

An engineer by trade, he was a keen Rovers supporter and leaves children Gavin, Tom and Katie.

His funeral will take place at 1.30pm on Monday, August 15 at Chanterlan­ds Crematoriu­m.

A get together will be held at the Platts Social Club on Saturday, August 20 from 6pm.
