Apartments plan for former pub
A FORMER pub in Church could be given a new lease of life as an apartment building.
Plans have been submitted to Hyndburn council to turn the former Bridge Inn on Henry Street into three residential apartments built over four storeys.
An additional three townhouses would be built at the rear of the site.
The site has been vacant since the pub closed a number of years ago.
In a design statement, agent Guy Shorrock, from Aldrock Surveyors, said: “The site is currently a dilapidated public house with rear space made up of both hard standing and vegetation, including a number of trees.
“The development is located within a short distance from local amenities such as doctors surgery, dentist, pharmacy and supermarket. There is a bus stop approximately 250 yards from the development site.
“The local train platform is under 0.5 miles from the development site and the site has quick access to the M65, which is approximately one mile away, allowing great access to surrounding areas and Manchester.”
The scheme proposes to convert the existing pub building into three apartments, build three new townhouses on land to the rear and the construction of five garages.
The agent for the application said the development would be a great improvement to the area.
Mr Shorrock added: “The design of the new residential scheme has been developed to create a sensitive development which respects the site’s location in the existing town and immediate vicinity.
“The site lends itself very easily to the design we have created and would be a great improvement on one of the main access roads into the town.”
The application will be decided at a later date.
Hyndburn councillor Peter Britcliffe, who has previously spoken about his concern about the demise of pubs in the area, said: “Yet another pub bites the dust. They are collapsing like a row of dominoes, sadly a game hundreds have enjoyed in the past in these well known local hostelries.
“It is so sad to see their demise from our social scene.”
