SEAN McConville scored a stoppage-time winner as Accrington Stanley began their League Two campaign with a victory over Doncaster Rovers.

Romy Boco and Matty Pearson also scored for Stanley to cancel out strikes from Tommy Rowe and Andy Williams.

It means the Reds kick off their campaign with a victory, and manager John Coleman was fairly pleased with the performanc­e.

“We lost our way a bit in the second half but I was happy with the way we took our goals and the character we showed to keep bouncing back and dig in at the end,” he told the club’s official website.

“We are still bedding new players in and they are still getting used to the way we play and our shape so I am sure it will come.”

Doncaster were quick out of the blocks in the match and they had a golden opportunit­y to take the lead when Stanley goalkeeper Aaron Chapman fouled Matty Blair in the area.

Chapman made amends for his error though as he dived low to his right hand side to keep out the spot-kick from Williams.

The penalty save appeared to give Accrington a boost and they took full advantage when Boco scored on eight minutes.

He got onto the end of Scott Brown’s pass before beating former Stanley goalkeeper Ross Etheridge at the near post to make it 1-0.

The fast-paced action continued as just four minutes later Doncaster were on level terms when Rowe fired past Chapman to equalise.
