JC sets points target for Reds

STANLEY manager John Coleman has revealed he has set his side a target of 85 points for the second season running.

The Reds got the League Two campaign underway on Saturday with a 3-2 victory over Doncaster Rovers at the Wham Stadium.

Stanley managed to reach Coleman’s points target last season, and he wants to try and replicate that despite believing it will be an even tougher year.

“I set a target of 85 points last season and we got there but it wasn’t enough – most seasons it would have been. I have again set that target and let’s see where it takes us,” he told the club’s official website.

“It will be an unforgiving league this season – I think it could be tougher than last season with the teams who have come up from the National League and come down from League One and teams like Portsmouth who you expect to be up there.

“We have lost some good players but we have made some quality signings. Most teams would miss the likes of Josh Windass, Matt Crooks and Piero Mingoia but I am excited to see these players play now.”

A stoppage-time winner from Sean McConville earned Accrington the victory over Doncaster on Saturday, with Romo Boco and Matty Pearson getting the other goals.

While Coleman was pleased to get the win, he still feels his side has room for improvement.

“I know we can play better. We did not press Doncaster enough and we let them gain control of the match and we pride ourselves on dictating play,” he said.
