RICHARD SEYMOUR

RICHARD Victor Seymour, formerly of Clayton-le-Moors and Accrington, died peacefully on Thursday, August 11 at the Woodlands care home aged 90 years.

He was the devoted husband of the late Edna, much loved father of Carl and dear brother-in-law of Alan.

Richard served with the Royal Navy during the Second World War having volunteere­d in early 1943-1946 and was the last surviving member of HMS St Brides Bay Associatio­n first commission.

He was very proud to have served his country.

Following WW2 he began work at shopfitter­s and later worked in the building and steel erection trade.

In later years he enjoyed extensive travel with his wife Edna visiting many countries of Europe and especially enjoyed their many trips to Italy.

Richard especially loved horse racing, enjoyed a bet and always looked forward to visiting race courses with his friends from Bold Street WMC and the King’s Arms, Accrington.

A hardworkin­g and humble gentleman who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Richard’s Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, August 23 at Accrington Crematoriu­m Chapel at 1pm.

Richard will then be laid to rest in Accrington Cemetery.

MARK Anthony Ashton, of Accrington, died peacefully in the loving care of East Lancashire Hospice surrounded by his loving family on Friday, August 12 aged 53 years.

The loving dad of Charlotte and Dominic, dear son of Peter and Ann, cherished grandad of Harley, dear brother of Paul and his wife Wendy, treasured uncle of Danica and James, Mark also leaves many good friends.

Mark spent his working life as a machinist in engineerin­g working for many companies in the local area including Meltech.

A keen pool player Mark played for Lancashire County and also many local pub teams in the area, he also loved all other sports and enjoyed spending many hours by the water fishing.

A very proud grandad he loved nothing more than spending time with his family and always treated his grandson Harley.

Mark enjoyed many holidays around Europe relaxing in the sunshine.

Mark’s Funeral Service will take place at Accrington Crematoriu­m on Tuesday, August 23 at 3pm.

IRENE ECCLES

MRS Irene Eccles died on Friday, August 5 while in Blackburn Royal hospital. Irene was the wife of the late John Eccles, mother of Steven and the late Peter and Robert and grandmothe­r of Caroline.

She started work as a civil servant who left employment to bring up the children Peter, Robert and Steven, during which she went to college to become a teacher.

Irene was a primary school teacher at Moor End School, Oswaldtwis­tle, for many years until her retirement.

There will be a church service at Accrington United Reformed Church, Whalley Road at 2pm on Friday, August 19 and afterwards onto Accrington Crematoriu­m, Burnley Road at 3pm. Family flowers only. Donations to be sent via Wolstenhol­mes Funeral Services in aid of Accrington United Reformed Church.

MARY EVANS

MARY Bernadette Evans, of Clayton-le-Moors, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 11, following a long illness, aged 84 years.

She was the dearly beloved wife of the late Jack and the devoted mum of John and his partner Patricia.

Mary was a lifelong and devoted member of St Mary’s Church, Claytonle-Moors.

She started her working life as a weaver and then became a cleaner at Mount Carmel School. She loved her home, enjoyed gardening and always had a beautiful summer garden bursting with colour.

Mary loved animals too, especially cats and doted on her own cat, Ginger.

She also enjoyed being in company and had many happy hours socialisin­g with her friends and shopping at Oswaldtwis­tle Mills.

She liked to watch TV too - particular­ly Emmerdale. ‘Requiescat in Pace’ The funeral mass will be held at St Mary’s Church, Clayton-le-Moors, on Friday, August 19, at 1pm, followed by cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m, officiated by Father J Clarke.

Donations are being received on behalf of St Catherine’s Hospice.

ERIC ARNFIELD

MR Eric Arnfield, of Cornwall Place, Church, Accrington, died on Tuesday, August 9, aged 81 years.

He worked as a joiner and wheelwrigh­t and as a defects manager at Rawlings Bros.

Later, he became self-employed as a general handyman to anyone with a kettle and a packet of biscuits.

As a younger person, he liked sports, in particular, cricket, tennis and Crown Green Bowling where he won trophies and cups.

He also enjoyed tegatani kempo in which he achieved black belt status.

He also enjoyed walking and rambling, socialisin­g and taking services at spirituali­st churches in the north west.

He leaves his wife Lynda, daughter Lisa, son-in-law David, grandchild­ren Chloe and Jack, stepdaught­er Joanne and husband Howard, and children Luke and Ben.

The funeral service, conducted by Father Martin Daniels, will be held on Monday, August 22, at 2pm at Hyndburn Funeral Service Chapel of Rest, Queens Road.

This will be followed by burial at 2.30pm at Dill Hall Lane Cemetery.

Family flowers only with donations to Cancer Research UK.

JEAN EDDLESTON

MRS Jean Eddleston, of Oswaldtwis­tle, died on Thursday, August 11, aged 83 years.

She was a supervisor at Noels, Stanhill, Oswaldtwis­tle, and a member of St Mary’s Ladies.

Jean enjoyed crocheting, netball (in her younger days) and flower arranging.

She was the wife of the late Thomas Eddleston and leaves her children, David, Steven and Thomas and daughters-in-law Jan, Kate and Carol.

She was also a much loved grandma and great grandma.

The funeral service, conducted by Philip Norris, will be held on Wednesday, August 24, at 11.40am.

This will be followed by cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m. Flowers are welcome. Funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Service.

MARY O’CONNOR

MARY O’Connor (McIntyre) of Curlew Close, Oswaldtwis­tle, and Dove Court, Burnley, died on Monday, August 15, aged 86 years.

Born in Haslingden, she worked at Burnley Unemployme­nt Benefit Office as a switchboar­d operator.

She dedicated her whole life to raising her six children and supporting them in raising their children – knitting for new grandchild­ren.

She was a ballet and tap teacher and founded St Mary’s Panto Group, Oswaldtwis­tle in 1966.

She was also a St Mary’s, Oswaldtwis­tle Ladies Choir member and a St Mary’s, Oswaldtwis­tle, Ladies Group member.

She enjoyed sequence dancing.

Mary leaves her children Monica, Kathleen, Stephen, Pauline, Susan and Christine.

She was the nana of 15 grandchild­ren, 13 great grandchild­ren and also two great, great grandchild­ren.

She also leaves her sister Nora, brothers Gerard, and the late Thomas.

Her funeral service, conducted by Msg John Daley, will be held at St Mary’s Parish Church, Catlow Hall Street, Oswaldtwis­tle, on Thursday, August 25 at 10.30am.

This will be followed by her burial with immediate family only.

Family flowers only with donations to HCPT (Hosanna House and Children’s Pilgrimage Trust).

CHRISTINA CROSS

MRS Christina Cross (Chrissie), of Ashworth Street, Baxenden, died peacefully at home on Monday, August 15, aged 90 years.

She was a wonderful devoted mother, grandmothe­r and great grandmothe­r.

Chrissie was the dearly devoted wife of the late Alan, the much loved mother and mother-inlaw of Peter and Anne, Susan and Bas, and Michael and Andrea, the devoted grandmothe­r to James, Louise, Paul, Lindsay, Nico and Richard and greatgrand­mother to Liv and Isabelle.

Her hobbies and interests included craftwork, puzzles, travelling, reading, and she was an active member of the Autumn Club and St John’s Church.

The church service will be held on Tuesday, August 23, at 1.15pm, at St John’s church in Baxenden.

Donations, if desired to St John’s Church, Baxenden.
