SKY BET LEAGUE TWO BARNET............................. 2 STANLEY........................... 0 SHELDAN KEAY

ACCRINGTON Stanley suffered a loss in their first away match of the season after coming up short against Barnet on Saturday.

Goals from John Akinde and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro condemned the Reds to defeat at The Hive Stadium.

Boss John Coleman wasn’t happy with his team and felt that they got what they deserved.

“We did not turn up and the performance wasn’t good enough. They allowed us to have a lot of the ball and we flattered to deceive,” he told the club’s official website.

“Barnet were more clinical than us, they took their chances, and they were worthy winners. We had no cutting edge, I didn’t see enough desire and we surrendered meekly and our travelling fans deserved better.

“It is unfortunate that the injuries have all come in one position and we have lost three recognised centre forwards but we have to soldier on.

“We’ve got good players and if we can get those good players playing well then we can cause teams problems. Our good players didn’t play well on Saturday. They don’t set out to do that, we have to build their confidence up and give them ideas of what they can do to improve.”

It was a quiet start to the match, but Terry Gornell was forced off for Stanley after just 15 minutes. John O’Sullivan fired an effort over the bar for Stanley while Michael Nelson went close with a header. The home side began to dictate play from that point onwards, with Alex Nicholls going close when his long range effort narrowly went wide of the goal.

Barnet’s dominance paid off as on 33 minutes Akinde gave his team the lead when he got on the end of a pass from Elliot Johnson before slotting the ball into f the net.

The Reds tried to get back on level terms before the interval, but they couldn’t test Josh Vickers in the Barnet goal.
