Kids’ sporting extravaganza in Huncoat inspired by Olympics

-

THE sun shone down on the ‘Huncoat Olympics’, which saw more than 20 young people gather to take part in an action packed day of sporting activities.

The special event was hosted at Huncoat Community House on Tuesday, August 16 in honour of the Games being held in Rio and the success of British athletes.

Children, aged from two to 15 years old, got the chance to take part in team games, including dodgeball, tag, football and running, with the support of a qualified instructor.

The sporting extravaganza aimed to provide children with an introduction to sport, and teach them the benefits of exercise and healthy living.

It also sought to inspire the children and young people to be inspired by the success of British athletes.

The event was funded by Hyndburn Homes, in partnership with Surestart and Sweeney Sports, who provided the activities on the day.

The diet of champions was also on offer with healthy fruit, snacks and drinks there to help keep the rising stars hydrated and nourished.

Jayne Brignall, community investment officer for Hyndburn Homes, said: “We wanted to do something to entertain the children, and help beat the summer boredom.

“The delight and excitement on their faces made it all worthwhile - the children wore their rosettes with pride.”
