Dyche needs to have his back-up sorted

- KATERINA LEE’S VIEW

IN all, a disappointing display from Burnley last week.

I would say Saturday’s defeat by Chelsea was expected, however a midweek loss to Accrington Stanley in the League Cup wasn’t quite what we wanted. I understand that Dyche wanted the main squad rested for our clash at Stamford Bridge, but the problem we’re left with is that our ‘second team’ isn’t as up to scratch.

It begs the question – what happens if Vokes or Gray are injured? Michael Keane or Ben Mee? Hopefully Dyche has taken this into account and has started to make a few plans as to backing up the same starting 11 he puts out weekly.

Most of all, it was by far one of the most tedious matches I’ve encountered from the team.

On Saturday, we were beaten 3-0 by Chelsea away, despite Heaton having a huge game making some important and fantastic saves.

Dyche made a few changes early on for a change, and despite having thought O’Neill was poor midweek, he played extremely well on Saturday given the mammoth task ahead. It does mean that the game against Hull coming up this weekend is an early ‘must-win’. Hull have been showing resolute strength despite having no manager so far this season and turmoil within the club over the summer, so an easy win against them it will most likely not be.

However, it’s teams like Hull we need to beat to avoid the drop when it comes down to it at the end of the season. I must say, however, that I am extremely pleased with three points already and 13th place, and if we can make it six points in four games, we might be on for a good season.
