Gladiators star Ace will visit town to speak about his faith

-

FORMER Gladiators star Ace will visit Accrington as part of a Christian festival.

Warren Furman, who played Ace on the popular Saturday night ITV show between 1996 and 2000, will attend Platt Social Club on Blackburn Road to speak about his life and faith.

This event is being staged as part of the Diocese of Blackburn’s Crossroads Mission, with other events being held around the borough this weekend.

Rev Ian Enticott, vicar of the United Benefice of Accrington St James and St Paul, said: “One of the people coming to Accrington is Rev Roger Simpson who is the Archbishop of York’s evangelist and he knows Warren from when he became a Christian.

“He has worked with him on a number of occasions before. People will remember and recognise him from being Ace but maybe not know his real name.

“He said he was bringing him along for the weekend to Accrington and was available and we said we were interested.

“A number of people I’ve spoken to said they’d like to come.

“It is an open meeting and you don’t have to know someone there to come along.

“We thought it would be a bit of an attraction and the fact that he has become a churchgoer since he was on television. It should be a good evening.”

The event will take place on Saturday, September 10 at 7.30pm.

Entry will be free but to book a place visit www.eventbrite.co.uk and search for ‘Ace Gladiator’ and follow links or, alternatively, call 01254 433590.
