MR Alfred Lane, of Devonshire Street, Accrington, died peacefully with his family by his bedside, on Friday, September 2, aged 91.

He served in the Army during WWII throughout Europe and then the Far East. On his return home, he married his sweetheart Maud.

She remained by his side for 61 years until her death but was forever his sweetheart.

He worked at Howard and Bulloughs/Platts as an engineer his entire working life. He loved steam trains and enjoyed a journey on the Settle to Carlisle run for his 90th birthday last year.

For many years, he was a valued committee member at the Clayton-leMoors Branch of the Royal British Legion.

Alf leaves his dearly loved sons Ian and Dave, and their partners Pauline and Helen. He was a much loved grandad to Simon, Louise, Deborah and Sarah, and was a treasured great-grandad to Mia, Jack, Harry, Thomas, Esme and Noah.

His funeral service, administer­ed by the Rev Ron Lewis, will be held at Whalley Road United Reformed Church on Monday, September 12, at 12noon.

This will be followed by his cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m, Burnley Road, at 1pm.

Family flowers only please but donations, if wished, to the Clayton-leMoors Branch of The Royal British Legion.
