ADA GIBSON

-

ADA Gibson, of Claytonle-Moors, died peacefully at Hope House on Wednesday, November 9, aged 101.

She was the dearly loved wife of the late Thomas, much loved mum of Barbara, Adele and Peter, dear mother-in-law of Alan and Tony and a cherished grandma, great-grandma and great, great-grandma.

Ada left school at 14 years of age and began working as a seamstress. She then spent the rest of her working life in the sewing industry.

She was a lifelong member of All Saints Church and loved to attend the church services. Ada lost her husband Thomas in 1971 and then devoted her time to raising money for charities such as Arthritis, Epilepsy and the Sharron Davies Swim for Life Charity.

She was a truly inspirational lady, learning to swim at the age of 75. She thought nothing of swimming 40 lengths at a time and raised thousands of pounds as a result. She was a very strong and independent lady who knew what she wanted out of life.

She liked to keep herself fit and she enjoyed seeing her family “on her own terms.” Ada said that everyone should start the day with a “smile and never mind what anybody else says.” She will be greatly missed.

Ada’s funeral service was due to take place at All Saints Church, Clayton-leMoors on Thursday, November 17 at 10.45am followed by committal at Accrington Crematorium.

Flowers welcome to the Chapel of Rest or donations in memory of Ada on behalf of Cancer Research UK via Champ Funeral Services.

Funeral director: Champ Funeral Services.
