JEAN DANIELS

-

MRS Jean Daniels, of St Leger Court, Accrington, a former landlady of The Kings Arms Hotel, Accrington, passed peacefully away in Accrington Victoria Hospital on November 22, aged 87.

Jean was the beloved wife of the late Frank Daniels, mother to Graham, Philip, John and Andria and mother-inlaw to Barbara and Lynne.

She was also auntie to Jennifer, Christine, Neil, Denise, Susan, David and Paul.

On leaving school, Jean worked at Stein’s Textiles Mill in Church, until she was 17 years old.

In 1946, she went to work at the Kings Arms as a barmaid and cleaner and then, in 1966, Jean and Frank took over The King’s Arms as licensees and ran the pub until 1987.

On retiring, Jean looked after grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a loving grandmother to Jayne, Ian, Stephen, Andrew, John George, Kathryn, Michael, Thomas, Sam and Charlee, a great grandmother to Laura, Rebekah, Katie, Cavan, Caiera, Mark, Austin, Scott, Carson, Isaac, Chloe, Erin, Henry and Ethan and a very proud great-great grandmother to Isabella Jayne.

Jean was known to them all as Nana Jean and she was never happier than when she was able to spend time with them cooking and baking for them.

Jean was famous for her maltloaf and any visitors would be quickly offered a cup of tea, a sandwich and a slice.

Jean enjoyed socialising with her many friends and neighbours, whether on the phone or coming round for a chat.

She loved listening and singing along to all kinds of music, doing crosswords and word puzzles having the odd flutter on the horses.

Jean’s family would like to thank the staff and Professor Singh of Ward 2 in the Accrington Victoria Hospital for the care and attention shows to Joan during her recent stay in hospital.

Especially thanks to Mr Rao and his staff at Blackburn and Burnley Hospitals and more thanks to the district nurses for their constant care and attention.

A service by the Rev Ken Gowland took place at Accrington Crematorium on Friday, December 2 at 3pm.

Donations to Cancer Research are welcome.

Funeral service: Hyndburn Funeral Services.
