GALLERY CORNER
WHAT an amazing year it has been at Haworth Art Gallery!
Our regular Sunday afternoon programme of children’s activities, live music concerts and family fun days has gone from strength-to-strength, attracting more people to the gallery than ever before.
The Gallery Kitchen has also extended its opening hours to include morning coffee from 11am, Bistro nights on Friday and Saturday and late Sundays for delectable dinners.
We were thrilled that our annual charity Art Fair for Macmillan Cancer Care topped £4,000 and look forward to building on that success in 2017.
Weddings at the Haworth are very popular and we have now extended our wedding packages to include a choice of sit-down wedding breakfast, afternoon tea and evening receptions. We also offer a Wedding Vow Renewal service for that special anniversary, please call 01254 233782 for details.
Publicity and PR are vital to the running of Haworth Art Gallery and we are thrilled that we are featured regularly on the John ‘Gilly’ Gilmore show on Radio Lancashire.
We also had a fabulous day when we hosted one of their summer outdoor broadcasts and look forward to repeating this in 2017.
We have are also proud of the high-profile visits from local and national celebrities to the gallery and stables studios, including the Sheriff of Lancashire Amanda Parker; the Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire Martin Ainscough; International Wildlife Artist Pollyanna Pickering and TV personality and antiques expert, Eric Knowles.
We have even been promoting our art collection in France, when we loaned our Claude Vernet painting, Storm off the French Coast, to Marseille!
The biggest development at the gallery has been the opening of the Stables and Motor House Studios. It is so wonderful to have the studios occupied by such fabulous artists, plus the creative play company ‘The Art Garden’ who are based in the potting shed and conservatory.
We will be running a series of joint activities in the new year linking the stables and gallery together. Further details will be found on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/ haworthartGalleryAccrington.
Finally, it’s not only the gallery and stables that have undergone change and development. Haworth Park has also been enhanced with the beautiful replica of the PALS Memorial constructed by students from Accrington College and the planting of two oak saplings, donated by local historian Les Bond, in memory of the PALS.
These memorials are available to see all year round, so make the most of a healthy walk in the fresh air by strolling around Haworth Park.
We wish all our visitors new, old and yet to come, a very Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you in 2017.
