Our luck has to change – Brown

SCOTT Brown insists Stanley’s poor run of form has been heavily influenced by bad luck – and expects that to change in the near future.

The Reds suffered another defeat on Boxing Day when they lost 2-0 at Grimsby, keeping them third from bottom and outside the relegation zone on just goal difference.

While it was their seventh defeat in eight league games, Brown is confident that the team has what it takes to turn things around.

The luck’s not with us at the minute and there’s only us who can change that,” he told the club’s official website. “It’s about working hard, continuing to do everything right, getting the basics right and that luck will turn and we’ll start picking up points again. It’s all about getting results and we need to get one desperately.”

Stanley travel to Crewe Alexandra on New Year’s Eve, and Brown thinks the busy run of fixtures may help the side.

“The games can’t come quick enough for us. We want to put this bad run of form to bed. That starts with getting that first win,” he said.

“We’ve been playing well, we did well against Plymouth and another sloppy goal killed us but we’re creating and it’s just a matter of time before one of those chances goes in and we think the floodgates will then open.”

Brown is also urging the wiser players in the squad to help some of the youngsters through the difficult period.

“You can tell there are a few nerves in a few of the players but it’s up to the more experienced lads to bring them through that,” he said.

“As long as everyone keeps pulling together and working hard we think it’s only a matter of time.”
