Coleman plans to ring changes

ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman is promising changes to his squad in January as he looks to end his side’s poor run of form.

The Reds suffered a 2-0 defeat against Grimsby Town on Boxing Day, with Stanley once again coming up short in a match that they had chances to win.

Coleman was frustrated with the outcome, and believes it may now be time to change the players in his side.

“I’m disappointed and upset for the fans that travelled to Grimsby. We can’t keep saying the same things so something has got to change, and that will probably be personnel in January,” he told the club’s official website.

“The set of players are very good. They’re great players who play really well but we’ve managed to find a way of losing game after game after game and not scoring.

“Grimsby’s goalkeeper made three great saves in the match, and they then get two easy chances presented to them and they score.

“I’m waiting to see our goalkeeper keep us in a game. I’m not blaming him, but we don’t seem to be capable of making big saves.”

Coleman hopes his desire to make changes to his squad will improve the club’s fortunes, as he is currently unaware whether the players are struggling due to a physical or a mental aspect.

“I don’t know if it’s mental, but the theory of madness is to keep doing the same things and expecting different results,” he said.

“We’re expecting to win games, and in the main we are dominating games, but then not winning them.

“Against Grimsby we probably had more shots, more possession and more corners, but the important stat is goals and they scored two while we scored none.”

Accrington will now hope to end their poor run and get back to winning ways when they travel to Gresty Road to face Crewe Alexandra on New Year’s Eve.

Crewe are 16th place in the League Two table, having taken 27 points from their 22 games so far this season. They head into the match with Stanley in bad form, after winning just one of their seven league games. Their last fixture saw them held to a 1-1 draw with Carlisle United on Boxing Day.

Crewe and Accrington have already met once this season, with Crewe picking up a 3-0 win in an EFL Trophy group stage match in August.
