MORE than 80 guests attended a community Christmas party at Mount Carmel High School.

Parishioners from local Catholic parish churches of St Mary’s Oswaldtwistle, St Mary’s Clayton-leMoors, St Joseph’s and St Anne’s, residents from nursing homes and local and staff family members were among the guests.

A festive meal was prepared and served by staff and catering students from Accrington and Rossendale College, with members of Mount Carmel Youth St Vincent de Paul and Growing in Faith Together serving food and waiting on the guests.

Entertainment was provided after the meal by Mount Carmel drama students, who performed an extract from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the choir from Broadfield Specialist School sang a selection of songs.

The afternoon also included a Christmas sing-a-long and a free raffle, before all guests left with a food hamper containing items donated by Mount Carmel students and their families during a recent non-uniform day.

Headteacher Xavier Bowers thanked everyone for attending the event and explained to the guests that this year saw the largest number of people attending in the four years the school has held the event.

He said: “All our guests went home with a food hamper, very happy and full of the joys of the real Christmas message – peace on earth, love, hope and joy.”
