GALLERY CORNER

- YVONNE ROBINS

THE Gallery will be kick-starting the new year with the first of its free children’s workshops on Sunday, January 8, with ‘Mrs Maker’, creating a Snowy Starry Night collage. The workshop is on from 1.30pm to 3.30pm and there is no need to book, just drop in.

These fantastic workshops will continue on alternate Sundays with a diverse programme of activities, including dragons for Chinese New Year, spring flowers for Mother’s Day and Easter cards.

We are extending our Free Sunday ‘Afternoon Gig’ programme to twice a month, starting with The Ranting Lads, a mixture of Irish/foot-stomping music guaranteed to chase away the winter blues! The gig starts at 2pm on Sunday, January 22, and refreshments will be available from the Gallery Kitchen bar.

The Stables Activity programme will commence in February with a tremendous mix of workshops, tours, trails and family fun days. Please see our Facebook page for all the latest details www.facebook. com/ ha wort hart Gallery-Accrington or contact the gallery on 01254 233782 and ask to be added to our email contact list.

Gallery deputy manager and curator, Gillian Berry, will be working hard to complete the arrangements to take our Tiffany mosaics to New York for a temporary exhibition at the Corning Museum of Glass. This exhibition will promote Accrington to millions of Americans and encourage visitors to our town and gallery.

Finally, we will be organising some major events with external partners, including Radio Lancashire, Macmillan Cancer Care Art Fair and Accrington Bonsai Club. If you would like to get involved with the gallery as a volunteer, please contact us as we would love to have you join us.

The Gallery Kitchen will continue to offer fabulous lunches, afternoon tea and sumptuous evening meals and will be looking to extend their current offer to gala lunches and evenings featuring live entertainment. Please see their Facebook page for details: www.facebook. com/ Ha wort hart gallery kitchen.

With such a lot to look forward to, the staff and volunteers at Haworth Art Gallery wish all our readers a very Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you soon!
