DOROTHY MCFADDEN

MRS Dorothy McFadden, of Blackburn Road, West End, Oswaldtwis­tle, passed away on Monday, February 13, aged 75.

She worked in the Rishton branch of the Co-op, for U-Band, and owned various shops and also worked for Tesco.

Her hobbies and interests included gardening, arts and crafts and retail therapy.

She leaves husband Bernard, and was the loving mum of Duncan and Stuart, mother-inlaw to Diane and Jill, grandma to Katie, Hannah, Olivia, greatgrand­ma of Tegan, Tommy and Poppy, sister, auntie and a dear friend.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, February 21, at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

Donations, if desired, are requested to Cancer Research UK.

JAMES WALSH

MR James Walsh – known as Jim – of Burnley Road, Accrington, passed away on Saturday, February 18, aged 83.

He was an accounts clerk at Howard and Bullough for over 30 years before retiring in 1988 due to ill health.

Husband of Jackie, he was dad to Phillip and Lesley and grandad to Jay, Ben and George.

He was a dear brother, uncle and brother-inlaw.

He enjoyed holidays in Spain and travelling around Scotland with his wife, sister-in-law and brother-in-law.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 1, at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

Donations, if desired, requested to North West Air Ambulance.

DOREEN WALSH

MRS Doreen Walsh – née Holgate – of Woodside Close, Huncoat, Accrington, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, aged 91.

On leaving St Mary’s School, Oswaldtwis­tle, Doreen began her working life at Hambledon Mill and after marrying Peter in 1950 worked part-time at Stanhill Ring Mill.

As her four children got older she took a position at Enfield Training Centre before changing roles to help her sister-in-law Molly, managing the health food shop in Accrington Arcade.

Subsequent­ly, along with husband Peter became proprietor­s of the health food stall in Accrington Market Hall.

As a child Doreen was a parishione­r of St Mary’s Church, Oswaldtwis­tle, following her wedding she attended Sacred Heart, Accrington, and in later life St. Joseph’s, Accrington.

She was a loving wife to her late husband Peter, and dedicated her life to bringing up her four sons. She played a devoted supporting role to Peter in all of his voluntary commitment­s including a period as Chairman of Church Urban District Council, President of Accrington Circle of the Catenian Associatio­n, and in his duties as a magistrate.

She leaves children Peter, Andrew, Stephen and Paul, together with ten grandchild­ren and four great-grandchild­ren. She leaves elder brother Norman as the last surviving member of her siblings.

A funeral service will be held at 11.30am on Tuesday, March 7, at St Joseph’s, Belgarth Road, Accrington, administer­ed by Father S. D. Stamp, followed by cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m at 1pm.

Funeral Directors: Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queen’s Road, Accrington. MR Peter Trevor Noon, of Lupin Close, Accrington, passed away on Sunday, February 19, aged 86.

He was in business as a thermal insulation contractor and selfemploy­ed.

He was a keen follower of horse racing and was always on the look out for a bargain.

Husband of Mary Noon – who passed away in 2009 – he leaves daughter Hazel together with sons Adrian and Peter.

A funeral service will be held at 3pm on Thursday, March 9, at Accrington Crematoriu­m, followed by cremation.

Flowers are welcomed and if desired, donations are requested for Injured Jockeys Fund.

TERENCE LEE

MR Terence Lee – known as Terry – of Hope House Nursing Home, passed away on Monday, February 20, aged 80.

He was the head kitchen porter at Dunkenhalg­h Hotel.

Terry had various hobbies. He was a well-liked member of the Pioneer Club where he played darts and dominoes. He was very keen on having a flutter on the horses and enjoyed watching old films. He also enjoyed spending time in Blackpool.

Husband of the late Francis Gloria Lee, he leaves three children, Bernie, Paul, David together with nine grandchild­ren, 10 great-grandchild­ren and loving son-in-law Fred.

A funeral service was due to be held at 1pm on Thursday, March 2, at Accrington Crematoriu­m, administer­ed by David Ireland, followed by cremation.

SUSAN FOX

MRS Susan Fox, of Bold Street, Accrington, died on Friday, February 24, aged 83.

She was owner of The Fent Shop – a haberdashe­ry formerly of Whalley Road, Accrington.

She loved spending time with her family and was involved in lots of craft making in order to raise funds for charity.

She leaves husband Neil Fox, children Christophe­r, Joanne and Caroline together with grandchild­ren, the late Katy, Ben, David, Oliver and Daniel. She also leaves greatgrand­children Lyra, Lacey, Billy and Scarlett.

A funeral service will be held at 10.30am on Wednesday, March 8, at St Anne’s Church, Oldham Road, administer­ed by Father Stamp, followed by cremation at 11.40am.

TERRY ACKERS

MR Terry Ashley Ackers, of Walmsley Street, Great Harwood, passed away on Thursday, February 23, aged 69.

He was an HGV driver for Magnet Pet Foods in Rishton.

In his spare time he enjoyed course fishing and socialisin­g with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching football but he followed Blackburn Rovers.

The loved dad to Michelle, Simon and Graig and their partners Shaun, Liz and Niss and a dearly-loved grandad and great-grandad and very good friend to many.

A funeral service will take place at 11am on Monday, March 6, at Accrington Crematoriu­m, administer­ed by Rev. Philip Norris, followed by cremation. The family welcome flowers or donations as desired.

MICHAEL KEANE

MR Michael Keane, of First Avenue, Church, Accrington, passed away on Monday, February 20, aged 73.

Michael started an apprentice­ship at Long Bridges and after gaining his diploma, worked for several local engineerin­g firms. After being made redundant from Votex he was offered a job in Dubai as factory manager there where he worked for nine years before retiring back in England.

He enjoyed fishing, football, cricket, singing, snooker and listening to classical music and socialisin­g with friends. He was also a member of St Mary’s male voice choir.

He leaves wife Mrs Audrey Keane, children Joseph, Rachel and Maria, together with grandchild­ren Jack, Harvey, Isaac and Isabella.

A funeral service will be held at 11.15am on Friday, March 3, at St. Mary’s Church, Oswaldtwis­tle, administer­ed by John Daly, followed by cremation at 1pm.

JOHN NEWSHAM

MR John Henry Newsham, of Trinity Street, Oswaldtwis­tle, died on Thursday, February 23, aged 71.

John was well-known throughout the town of Accrington as he was a window cleaner throughout most of his life, before working at Calogen Foam in Accrington until he retired.

John was a member of Tavern’s ‘B’ cricket team, where his position was wicket keeper. He used to enjoy going fishing when younger.

He leaves behind his two sons Paul and Mark and he was the beloved husband of the late Jean Elizabeth Newsham. He was very much loved by family and friends.

A Celebratio­n of Life service will held at 10.20am on Wednesday, March 8, at Accrington Crematoriu­m, officiated by Judith Talbot. Flowers are welcomed. Funeral Director: Wolstenhol­mes.

ALAN HOPE

MR Alan Hope, of Oswaldtwis­tle, passed away on Sunday, February 26, aged 82, surrounded by his family in Springhill House Care Home.

Alan undertook his apprentice­ship at Steiners in Church and went on to work in textiles for the rest of his career. He became a specialist in this field, well-regarded for his technical knowledge in textile chemistry.

Following his National Service in the RAF he resumed his career at Edward Turnbull and Sons in Ramsbottom. For many years he was Lay Reader at Holy Trinity Church in Oswaldtwis­tle and was an active member of the church community.

Recreation­ally he enjoyed fish and chips at Fleetwood, spectating in the Ribblesdal­e Cricket League, Crown Green bowling, crosswords and his beloved music.

He was a much-loved father to Linda, Wendy and Mark and was loved and cherished by his dear friend Lilian.

He was a very proud grandfathe­r to Martin, Nicola, Katie, Phillipa, Amelia and Isabel, great-grandad to baby Jack and a dear brother to Colin, Ethel and the late Robert.

His children would like to thank their loved ones Andrew, Sally, Michael and Becca who have supported them and Dad throughout.

Dad touched a great many people’s lives with compassion, encouragem­ent and wisdom and they will miss him greatly.

A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Monday, March 6, at All Saints Church, Claytonle-Moors, prior to committal at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

RAYMOND ALLEN

MR Raymond Allen, of Rimington Avenue, Fern Gore, passed away at his home on Saturday, February 25, aged 78.

He was a coal miner from 1953 to 1986, and a wagon driver for Gaskells from 1988 until he retired. He then became a part-time delivery driver for Iceland before leaving due to ill health at the age of 74.

In his spare time he enjoyed a game of bingo and gardening.

He leaves wife Maureen, daughters Pauline, Lynne, Eileen and Tracey, sons Paul and Michael, daughtersi­n-law Angela, Vanessa, Mandy and Rose. He also leaves 16 grandchild­ren and 28 greatgrand­children.

A funeral service will be held at 10.20am on Monday, March 6, at Accrington Crematoriu­m, officiated by Mrs Sandra Howles, followed by cremation.

MAUREEN Entwistle, formerly of Oswaldtwis­tle, passed away peacefully in the hospice on Sunday, February 26, aged 70.

Maureen worked at the Royal Ordnance Factory as a progress chaser for many years before taking over Entwistle Newsagents in Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors with her husband Alan which they ran for 14 years until retiring in 2003.

Maureen enjoyed chatting with all the customers and always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed yoga and dancing and was an avid reader of spy novels and thrillers.

Ten years ago she and Alan moved to Catelonia, Spain to be near Martin, Sarah Jane and grandson Alex.

Maureen loved the sunshine and was a keen swimmer and joined a swimming club in Spain.

Ever-active and happy in company, Maureen was a very popular member of various women’s groups. She was a very sociable and loving character who was always smiling.

Practical, modest and gentle, Maureen will be remembered for her sunny dispositio­n and warm sense of humour. Devoted to her wonderful family, she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The dearly loved and loving wife of Alan, much loved mum of Vicky and Martin, dear motherin-law of Andrew and Sarah Jane and loving grandma of Alex, also much loved sister, sister-in-law and auntie.

Maureen’s funeral service will take place at 3pm on Wednesday, March 8, at Accrington Crematoriu­m.
