YOUR FUNDRAISER

-

Name: Catherine Derbyshire.

Where do you live?: Clayton-le-Moors.

Tell us a bit about yourself: 41-years-old, married, no children but have two German Shepherd dogs, work at Victoria Flower Shop in Accrington, love running and keep-fit.

What inspired you to become a fundraiser?: I started running about four years ago and run three times a week as a member of Accrington Road Runners. My cousin Julie Preston has been running again for a year after just getting back into it. Both of us are running this year’s London Marathon on Sunday, April 23. Julie has previously run the London Marathon twice but this will be my first time. Her mum, my auntie, Carole Walmsley died from pancreatic cancer in 2009 aged 63, after being diagnosed in the later stages of the disease, and we thought the marathon would be a good event to try to raise some funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK. We are aiming to raise £2,000 for the

charity so as part of our fundraising I decided to organise a ‘fun 5k run’ locally, asking people for a £5 donation to enter.

What do you enjoy most about doing this?: People’s generosity and the things you learn from other people.

What is your greatest achievement?: Running my first marathon last year.

Any plans for the future?: Trying to run faster.

Where is your favourite place in Rossendale?: In Rossendale? Marl Pits cross-country.

Ideally how would you spend every day?: Walking the dogs in the woods.

What was the best holiday you have been on?: Cambodia backpacking.

If money were no object what would you do?: Travel the world.

What one piece of advice would you give?: Life is short, live it, honestly.

Who is your biggest inspiration?: Jessica Ennis-Hill.

Who would you like to invite to dinner?: The band Slipknot.

WOODLANDS 5K FUN RUN Where is it?: The pavilion at Wilson’s playing fields, Woodland Drive, Clayton-le-Moors BB5 5SD.

When is it?: Easter Bank Holiday Monday, April 17. Starts at 11am from the pavilion.

What is the aim of the event?: To raise funds for our charity, Pancreatic Cancer UK.

What does it involve?: A 5k run around the traffic-free paved areas of the beautiful woodlands.

Who is it suitable for?: The course is suitable for runners of all abilities whether they are seasoned, experienced runners or just started running in the New Year, or any couch-to-5k runners.

Any other information?: Pay on the day to enter at £5 per person or make a donation to our Justgiving fundraising page which is: uk.virginmoneygiving.com/julie.preston2017LondonMarathon. Everything we make on the day goes directly to the charity. The event will be marshalled and there will be toilets and car parking facilities on site. There will also be a raffle with tickets available to purchase when you pay your entry fee. The prize-giving and raffle will be held at noon.
