Postponement disrupted Reds’ preparations

-

JOHN Coleman felt his side’s postponed match against Cambridge United last week disrupted preparations for the Doncaster Rovers game.

Stanley were due to take on Cambridge last Tuesday but the fixture was called off due to a waterlogged pitch at the Wham Stadium.

Stanley managed to earn a point at Doncaster on Saturday after a 2-2 draw, but Coleman was annoyed that they had to head into that game on the back of a postponement.

“It was very frustrating for us because we had a good win last Saturday and we wanted to be going into another game on the crest of a wave really,” he told the club’s official website.

“The players prepared properly for the game so it was a bit of a come down when it doesn’t happen and of course it’s frustrating for everyone who travelled or had planned to come to the game.

“It disrupted our week and our preparations for Saturday at Doncaster but there were no arguments from me about the game being called off – the pitch wasn’t fit enough due to too much standing water.

“I’ve been quick to be critical of the fact that games have been played when they shouldn’t have been played in the past so you won’t get any arguments from me about this one.

“It’s another game that we’re going to have to slot in and it makes the run in that little bit more demanding but we just have to accept it.

“There’s no guarantee we would have won the game but you always want to play when you’re in form. That makes it frustrating but we just have to get on with it.”

A new date has been announced for the game against Cambridge, with it now due to take place on Tuesday 28 March.
