JANICE WAS AN INSPIRATION

-

THE death of my dear friend and colleague Janice Trickett is a great sadness to myself and her many friends in teaching. Her early retirement from the teaching profession just over a year ago was a massive loss.

Janice was a dedicated teacher in every way. As a senior manager and special needs leader she showed such empathy with the children and families in school and the care and support she gave was outstanding, often going above and beyond her remit. There are endless examples I could write about which are not part of any job description.

For Janice her work was much more than just a job, as her husband Paul so clearly expressed in your article last week.

She fought hard to make sure children and families received all they could to give them an equal chance to succeed in school and in life. There are many young people in Hyndburn who have done just that and owe much of that to the support and encouragement given by Janice Trickett. Her door was always open especially to parents and carers to talk through issues, as she believed that family support was essential. Her warm welcome and her way of ‘getting things done’ meant that parents and carers felt confident to chat and even confide in her.

Janice managed a large team of support assistants who without exception valued her commitment and expertise and as a result worked hard to put her belief of equal opportunities for all into practice, in all the work they did.

I worked alongside Janice for many years and I often looked to her for advice and to talk through plans, ideas and issues. We had planned to retire from teaching at the same time. Unfortunately that was not to be as she had to take an earlier retirement. However, even in our conversations since her retirement we were discussing children and families, such was her depth of care, commitment and dedication.

Thank you Janice for all you did for the children, the school, your colleagues and friends, and for me.

My thoughts are with her own family who she loved and supported in the same true, unconditional Janice way. Stephanie Grimshaw via email
