NEW LED LIGHTS ARE TERRIBLE

-

I FEEL forced to write this letter after observing the steady deteriorations of street lighting in my area.

Why are we going back to the quality of street lighting last seen in the Victorian era of gas lights?

I take my dogs for a walk every night and have been appalled over the last few months as more and more of our lovely warm, bright orange street lights are replaced by dim, cold LED lights which give out poor quality lighting.

My dog walking route is no longer well lit and welcoming but cold and poorly lit.

How many more of our lovely bright orange street lights are the council planning to take away?

Do the people who make these decisions walk around the borough to see the results of their cost cutting?

I am sure that burglars and car thieves are welcoming their decision.

I no longer feel as safe as I used to when out walking at night.

I have heard that this poor quality lighting will save the council £3million, surely this could be saved elsewhere?

I also read last week that Hyndburn are planning to spend £3million on a new market square for Accrington’s dying town centre, cutting down our old horse chestnut trees in the process.

Accrington will soon be an empty concrete jungle with no character and few decent shops.

The people who live here travel to Burnley or Blackburn at the weekend and do their shopping. I wonder why? At the moment my home is well lit by the bright orange street lights, but for how much longer?

These LED lights are replacing our old street lights.

How long before the general public realise what is happening?

Yours despairingly. Beverly Dawes Limefield Street
