Boundary changes

-

CONTROVERSIAL plans to redraw the Hyndburn parliamentary constituency should be ‘put on hold’ because of flawed figures, it’s been claimed.

MP Graham Jones claims the Boundary Commission has based its proposals on ‘seriously out of date’ data with more than 3,500 borough voters not taken into account.

The changes would see the Hyndburn constituency renamed to Accrington and enlarged to cover Padiham, but losing Haslingden.

They are part of plans to cut the number of MPs in the House of Commons by 50.

Mr Jones claimed ‘millions of voters will not be included in the Commission’s calculations’.

He also said research carried out by the House of Commons Library shows how Hyndburn will have nearly twice as many missing electors as other constituencies.

Comments on the proposals can be made at www.bce2018.org.uk until Monday, March 27.
