Schools in top quarter

-

LANCASHIRE schools came out on top in Ofsted ratings.

According to recent government figures, 92.3 per cent of schools in the county are rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by the education watchdog.

This puts it in the top 25 per cent in the country, based on the figures to March 2017.

The study showed that 23.8pc of Lancashire schools were ‘outstanding’ and 68.5pc were ‘good’, compared to 21.1pc and 68.3pc respectively for England as a whole.

Lancashire’s figure for ‘requires improvement’ is 2.5pc, lower than the rest of the country at 8.9pc, and 1.3pc are judged ‘inadequate’, lower than the rest of the country at 1.7pc.

County councillor Matthew Tomlinson, cabinet member for children, young people and schools, said: “The majority of schools choose to receive their support and advisory services from the county council and I think this continued success is a tribute to the strong partnership we have with schools.

“We are also pleased that many schools from outside Lancashire are also choosing to buy in our school improvement services.”
