Maundy - ‘Justice for family’

-

MAUNDY Relief manager Lucy Hardwick said she was pleased that the family are getting ‘some justice’.

Speaking after the sentence, she said: “We are really pleased for his family that they got this verdict. We still miss Raich a lot as he was the most lovely man. We are very pleased some of our guests helped by giving evidence, which was not easy for them.

“It’s not a happy day but we are pleased for the family that they are getting some justice.”

Det Insp Tim McDermott, of Blackburn CID, said Mr Alcock could never have envisaged the ‘shocking level of violence he was about to suffer’.

Speaking after the hearing, he said: “We welcome today’s conviction.

“I would particularly like to thank Mr Alcock’s family for the dignified way they have conducted themselves throughout the trial and thank the witnesses in the case, who have shown great character in giving their evidence in the face of the defendant’s total refusal to accept responsibility.”

DI McDermott said it was a ‘vicious attack’ on a defenceless man and that Singleton had showed a ‘complete disregard for Mr Alcock’s welfare and inflicted injuries which were to prove fatal’.
