Ex-England ace starred in pub side

-

TWO football teams from the 1960s feature on this week’s nostalgia page – including an appearance by an ex-England international.

The pictures were submitted by Observer reader Brian Jones from Oswaldtwistle.

The first shows members of the Thwaites Arms team in 1968 and includes former Stoke and England international footballer Neil Franklin, pictured on the front row second from the left, who was the pub landlord at the time.

The second picture shows the Rhyddings High School football team in 1964.

More than 100 women took part in a mid-Ramadan festival at Great Harwood Community Centre in our third photograph from 1993. The Istari day included a variety of different workshops and a special meal and was organised by the Youth and Community Service.

Our final picture this week shows some of the Comic Relief capers enjoyed by residents in the early 1990s. Youth club leaders at Antley Methodist Church dressed up as babies and tried to eat jelly with chopsticks.
