BIG Walk To Help The Charity ‘Every Action Has Consequences’

The Hyndburn annual Charity Walk organised by the Rotary Club of Church and Oswaldtwistle is very proud of the monies raised by the various charities. This usually is around £30,000 to £40,000 each year.

One of the charity events taking place on May 14 is ‘Every Action Has Consequences’ when lead organiser Pat Rogers, together with 20 fellow walkers, will be undertaking the 10K walk.

All the walkers will be sponsored with the monies going to produce education packs to be used by schools, prisons, youth offending teams, police cadets and other organisations of the consequences of an ill judged action.

Sadly, Adam, the son of Pat Rogers, was killed seven years ago by a single punch while he was acting as peacemaker.

The charity uses Adam’s story to get young people to challenge the casual attitudes to violence and ‘binge’ drinking.

It is recognised that things will not change overnight, but by spreading the word it has a powerful impact on all those who hear it.

The Charity Walk starts at Junction 7, Clayton-leMoors and offers both a 5K and a 10K walk.

This will be the 12th consecutive walk that the Rotary Club has promoted.

The 10km walk is very scenic with half the distance along the Leeds– Liverpool canal then along the old railway track through to Great Harwood, before returning to the start position.

Rotarian Ron Pickup, the organiser of the event, said: “The purpose of this walk is to allow charities and good causes to raise money through sponsorship which provides vital income that is the lifeblood of such organisations.

“In the case of ‘Every Action Has Consequences’ we are more than pleased to see them promote their cause and wish them well for what they are doing.”

There will be plenty of entertainment before and after the event, with the lively and colourful Bojangles band playing their foot tapping music, and with the Claret Cheerleaders being in attendance.

Other attractions are the appearance of police horses and Blood Bikes.
