MRS Doreen Thompson, of Tanpits Road, Church, Accrington, died on Tuesday, April 25, aged 81.

Doreen was in the army, a bus conductres­s, then a care assistant for 10 years and then she became an ambulance driver for disabled people for 15 years.

In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well as holidays and going out shopping with auntie Doris.

She leaves her daughter Lesley and son-in-law Steve, grandchild­ren Christophe­r, Carladee, Kirsty, Danielle, Pauline and Declan and seven great-grandchild­ren.

Her funeral will take place on Tuesday, May 9, at 10.20am, at Accrington Crematoriu­m, conducted by the minister Mrs Katy Carmichael, followed by cremation.

Family flowers only please, donations are requested for the Air Ambulance.

MAY LIVERSEDGE

MAY Liversedge, formerly of Plantation Street, died peacefully on Sunday, April 30, in Belvedere Care Home, Accrington after a short illness, aged 95.

She was a devoted member of the New Jerusalem Church, where she took care of the children at the Sunday School there for many years.

She was also a keen baker and her delicious home-made marmalade will be missed by many.

Special thanks at this time go to the staff at Belvedere and her good friends who cared for her until the end.

May sadly leaves behind her dearly loved grandsons Mark and Dominic, who fondly remember her baking and her unconditio­nal love.

Her funeral service will take place at 9.40am on Tuesday, May 9 at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

CHARLES PHILLIPS

MR Charles Phillips, of Balmoral Road, Accrington, died on Monday, April 24, aged 91.

He was a clerical worker for British Rail.

In his spare time he enjoyed playing crown green bowls and was a member of Globe Bowling Club. He loved choral singing and was a former member of the Conchord Singers.

He also enjoyed philately (stamp collecting), horse racing and was a follower of Accrington Stanley.

He leaves his wife Doreen Phillips, sons John Phillips and Paul Phillips and daughter-in-law Linda Phillips.

Charles’ funeral will take place on Monday, May 8, at 11.40am at Accrington Crematoriu­m, conducted by Rev Gerald Higham.

ARTHUR ABBOTT

MR Arthur Abbott, of Aspden Lane, Oswaldtwis­tle, died on Wednesday, April 26, aged 91.

He retired from being a maintenanc­e engineer at Mullards, Blackburn.

Arthur loved sport, especially football.

He loved going on holidays and always loved being with his family.

He was the precious husband of Mildred, the beloved father of David, Annette, Elaine, Carolyn, dearly loved grandfathe­r and great-grandfathe­r.

Requiem Mass will be held on Thursday, May 9, at 10.15am at St Mary’s Church, Oswaldtwis­tle, followed by cremation at 11.40am at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

Funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Services. MRS Sheila Nuttall, of Huncoat, died at home, peacefully holding hands with her family, on Sunday, April 23, aged 84.

She was the loving wife of Ivan, devoted mum to Lindsay, mother-in-law to Peter, special ‘mum’ to Maz and Lee, ‘grandma’ to Caitlin and Amy and a dear friend to many.

Sheila attended Peel Park School and when she left, aged 14, she immediatel­y started her apprentice­ship as an upholstere­ss at CD Pierce Ltd.

She worked there for 16 years before taking over the running of her family business, Eves Bread and Cakes stall on Accrington Market.

Sheila was a hardworkin­g and well respected lady, who had many loyal customers who loved her famous muffins, scotch rolls, pies and cakes.

She worked alongside her family until her retirement at age 72.

In her early married days, she loved to ballroom dance and alongside Ivan, had several holiday adventures with Bill and Dot on their motorbike and motorbike sidecar.

Apart from looking after her family, Sheila loved to travel and her holidays to Canada and America with Joyce and Martyn, the many caravannin­g trips to the New Forest with Ena, Peter and Gavin and her family Mediterran­ean cruises with Lindsay and Peter, all gave her great pleasure.

Sheila was also a great lover of animals, especially dogs.

Ponies and horses also played an important part in her life as with the help of her much-loved Uncle Ernie, purchased Linzi’s first pony when aged seven.

Several more followed, including one for Maz, and Sheila regularly attended both the Accrington and East Lancs Pony Club events, cheering on Lindsay and Maz.

Sheila was a member of the Dunkenhalg­h Leisure Club, regularly exercising and swimming until ill health forced her to rest. She also contribute­d to several charities.

Sheila will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Her funeral service, conducted by Peter Cox, was due to be held at Accrington Crematoriu­m on Thursday, May 4, at 1pm. This will be followed by cremation.

Family flowers only by request and donations may be made in memory of Sheila on behalf of East Lancashire Hospice.

JOHN FLEMINGTON

MR John Flemington, formerly of Oswaldtwis­tle and later of Benllech in Anglesey, died on Wednesday, April 26, aged 87.

He served in the army in Eqypt between 1951 and 1953 before becoming a painter and decorator.

He later worked as a firefighte­r for 30 years in Accrington, Darwen and Rawtenstal­l and held the rank of assistant divisional officer.

He moved to Anglesey 20 years ago and enjoyed fishing, shooting and playing bowls.

Husband of the late Edna, he leaves his current wife Chris, children Michael and Sheridan, grandchild­ren Jordan, Mark, Scott, Zoe and Kimberley, greatgrand­children Ilyssa, Luke and Amelia and daughterin-law Trisha.

His funeral service and cremation will be held at Bangor Crematoriu­m on Wednesday, May 10 at 1.30pm.

His ashes will then be brought back to Hyndburn and scattered at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

Donations in his memory can be made to Cancer Research.

DENNIS FAUD

MR Dennis Faud passed away in hospital on Saturday, April 29, aged 68, with his loving family by his side.

He was the devoted husband and best friend of Patricia, loved dad of Jacqueline, father-in-law of Dave, treasured grandad of Jack and Oliver, son of the late Doris and Sam, brother of Frank, Derek and the late Alan, brother-in-law of Barbara, Alan, Deborah, Jim, Christine and Madge and a much-loved uncle.

Over the years Dennis was employed at a local brickworks, he also worked for Planit Kitchens then on to SG Aluminium up to his retirement.

In his younger years Dennis was a lead singer in groups such as Dickory Dock and White Satin, playing around the local working men’s clubs circuit.

Dennis was a loyal member of Burnley Road Bowling Green Club where he had been a member for over 30 years and played on the teams for snooker and bowling.

He also enjoyed fishing and DIY and was an avid loyal supporter of Accrington Stanley.

Dennis’ funeral service and cremation will be held at Accrington Crematoriu­m on Friday, May 12 at 2.20pm.

Then afterwards everyone most welcome at Burnley Road Bowling Green Club, Accrington.

JOHN KENYON

MR John Kenyon, of Washington Street, Accrington, died on Wednesday, April 26, aged 73.

John completed his apprentice­ship with Whitewell Dairies and Thwaites.

He worked for Howard and Bulloughs, then to Platt Saco Lowell as an inspection engineer, finally retiring from Calendar Aerospace Engineerin­g.

He enjoyed walking, history - especially Roman Civilisati­on - spending time with family, reading and listening to classical music and watching science fiction films.

He leaves his son Nicholas, daughter Maria, grandson Matthew, sister Mary Smith and nieces Christine and Lorraine.

His funeral service, conducted by Father Stamp, and cremation will be held on Friday, May 12 at 1pm at Accrington Crematoriu­m, followed by Whittakers.

No flowers but donations to Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.
