DISCOUNT shop to open at former Marks and Spencer store. The Original Factory Shop is moving into the Accrington Arndale Centre and Broadway (Observer May 5 and website)

Kathryn Ann Furey: Well, say what you like but I loved the one in Clitheroe, shopped there when I lived there, always go in when I am in the area. Had some lovely stuff from them and I am pleased to see a business take a chance on the people of Accrington. I hope they do well here. Nina Xena Carr: I think it’s great that something is coming and filling up a big empty shop in a prominent place. Hyndburn is a deprived area, the community don’t have a great deal of money to spend and that’s why discount stores work here. The one in Gt. Harwood is great. Let’s not knock it till we’ve tried it. Nina Xena Carr: I was a new mum when I shopped there. It’s great though. Empty shops don’t attract footfall and other businesses. Xx Kathryn Ann Furey: Let the nay sayers lose out, more quality bargains for the likes of us. Sharon Tedesco: I wish Primark would come to Accy, I think they’d do well... Jazz Smith: Is anyone else slightly disappointed that it’s ANOTHER discount shop? Marie Lewis: I am. I only go into the town centre, now if I have to go to the bank or the building society. There is nothing for me there. I now shop mostly in Burnley. They have interesting shops and a great M&S. Jazz Smith: I do most of my shopping at Asda but that’s only because work moved me to Colne. Darren Sagar: Some people are never happy. Money is tight for a lot of people and when your kids are pestering for branded clothing people need to go where the brands are cheap. At least the shop is going to be used and not empty. Good luck to them. Shirley Southward: A little bird told me that M&S are opening a food hall at the old B&M site on Union Street! Josh Blayne Allen: Good, Accrington needs more shops and more jobs. One small step in the right direction. Elizabeth Day: It’s nice to see that some businesses have faith in Accrington. I hope it does well. Jenna Collinson: Ohh I’ll be mooching in there when it opens xx Andrew Cavannagh: Good on em! Tracey Larkin: The way things are with the economy we need shops like this and its creating jobs which is a massive plus. Aitch Sumner: At least it’s not another pound shop. Yvonne Marie Varley: Things are looking up, for Accrington.
