Hundreds join charity walk
MORE than 350 enthusiastic walkers took part in the annual rotary charity walk around the borough.
Favourable weather helped make the 12th charity walk organised by the Rotary club of Church and Oswaldtwistle a successful grand day out.
Rotarians from Accrington, Great Harwood and Rishton, Blackburn, Darwen, and Pendle View acted as stewards to make the event a joint project and promote the Rotary spirit at the walk, which raised £24,000 for good causes.
The 10k route began from the Junction 7 Busi- ness Park, before moving onto the canal at Claytonle-Moors and then onto the old railway track at Rishton, skirting Mercer Park, then onto the fields before returning to the start position.
A shorter 5km walk followed the same circuit but avoided the canal section.
To welcome the walkers back on completion of their walk, there was plenty of entertainment with the colourful Blojangles jazz band providing a lively atmosphere, while a large group of Clarets Cheerleaders and Dance Group showed off their skills in a display.
Walk organiser Ron Pickup said: “I am very pleased with what has been a most successful event with good weather and seeing all the walkers enjoy themselves and raise the magnificent sum of £24,000 for many good causes.
“I want to thank all club members, and friends of Rotary, who took on their roles in one form or the other and with members from six local Rotary clubs making this a very special Rotary project.”
The Rotary club added their thanks to main spon- sor Howard Rigg Properties, and also Clayton Park Bakery and to Adhan Commercial Lettings for hosting the event start and finish at their premises.
