PARTNER of Evonne Harwood robbed at knifepoint just hours after her funeral. Guy Curtis had been walking home to Oswaldtwistle carrying the pictures of Evonne from her coffin when he was mugged (website and Observer May 12) John Mitchell: I used to serve in the British Army and was proud to say to folk on my travels I was from Accrington. Not anymore...they should close that path off completely or invest in some CCTV on that route. I hope they catch the vile person who committed this atrocious offence. Nicola Duckworth: We still need help with the gofundme appeal for the funeral costs. As you can see, Guy and Evonne Harwood’s family have been through quite enough without the added stress of how to pay for her funeral.

Please consider a small donation to help us get a bit nearer the target. The support we have had so far has been absolutely amazing! But we do still need your help for just a little longer. Please consider making a small donation, and keep sharing the link. Many many thanks. http://gofundme. com/evonne-harwoodfuneral Julie Little: What an awful place Accrington has become. Hope Guy is ok and the lowlife that thought it was ok gets what he deserves. Mary Street: Scumbags! As if [Guy] is not down enough, they need catching. John Holden: Absolutely disgusting hope the low life gets what he deserves. Karen Cushion: Omg. How can anyone do that? Hope you are ok Guy x Deborah Singleton: Speechless.... absolutely disgusting. Words fail me. Sophie Chellis Hargreaves: Scum of the earth. Emma Church: Talk about kick a man when he’s down, absolute scum. May Postlethwaite: How can any body do that? Julie Ashworth: Absolutely terrible, poor man x Michelle Wells: Omg that’s so terrible. Keely Rawcliffe-Pollard: Absolutely shameful. Gill Howard: Nothing in Accy surprises anymore.

NEW community library opens in Claytonle-Moors. It is the first independent library to open in Hyndburn (website and Observer May 12) Marie Demaine: Now we just need to ensure people use it. Vera Walker: Great news, such a lovely library x

ACCRINGTON Stanley chairman launches scathing attack on Premier League over contracts. Andy Holt accused the Premier League of ‘destroying the game’ in a series of furious tweets. (website and Observer May 12) Ian Ormerod: The Premiere league have not addressed the chairman’s points at all.

If they do not understand that football is a pyramid and that if the base is not secure the whole edifice will crumble then they need to seriously consider their position. Les Jones: Stanley Chairman is right, the amounts of money washing about at the top end of football are shameful.

WATCH Corrie star Julie’s barn-storming rallying cry: ‘We have 30 days to save our NHS!’. The Accrington actor, who played Hayley Cropper, urged people to vote Labour in next month’s General Election (website) Iain Wallace: Who’s going to save us from the NHS? £130billion cost to the tax payer (no it isn’t free) and there are 32million people in work. Divided equally that over £4,000 per annum per tax payer. With the tax threshold starting at £11,000 there are thousands of working people that pay nothing towards the NHS so the £4k increases to those who do pay tax. I now have to work until I’m 67 before I get a pension, NHS workers can retire at 50 then 24hrs later walk straight back into their old job on full pay AND still draw their works pension. How about the loophole where drug suppliers can increase drug prices by 2,000 per cent to 5,000 pc and NHS can do nothing because [ of ]their purchasing rules. Who else can run an institution like this and survive? The whole thing needs shutting down and rebooting with strict rules of operation and lean management. And yes I do feel for the front end nurses who keep the thing running but detest how billions extra are pumped into this farce annually because there are too many bums on seats poorly managing it. Jackie Carter Jefferson: I work for the NHS have for 18 YEARS. I cannot retire at 50! I have to work till I’m 67 too to get state pension and 60 before I can apply for my NHS pension which is not that great so I will work until I am 67. James Ashton: Yeah, it’s definitely not just the Tories who are to blame. The Tories have systematically ruined the NHS, and you think the answer is to vote them back in? Have you seen America? It’s NOT a lean system, its bloated at the top with cash while ordinary folk die or lose their homes through lack of cover. Neil Mooney: The NHS is always used as an excuse to vote for one party or the other then when whoever get in they forget or fail to fix the problems like both Labour and the Conservatives have both been doing for years. Linda Kirkman: Everyone is entitled to an opinion. However, I disagree and will make up my own mind without being persuaded to waste a vote thankyou. Alan Smithee: Realistically no matter who gets in will make little difference. If the Tories get in then they will say they are making savings and Labour will say the are cutting services; if Labour get in then they will say they are saving the NHS and the Tories will say they are wasting money, but the truth is that the budget will remain exactly the same. Carole Taylor: Not till they get a decent leader Julie, I thought Ed Miliband was bad. Jacqui Holden: Hmmm, Jeremy Corbyn and Dianne Abbott running the country?.......No thanks. Peter Spiers: Why are music and TV [stars] popping up and telling us how to think and vote? What makes them experts? Casee Malakian Leigh: Maybe the fact [Julie] works with several homeless charities in and around Accrington gives her experience? Phil Green: I am with you Hayley. Peter Wallace: I get so tired of ‘celebrities’ soap boxing - change the record! Carole Bancroft: God bless you Julie not holding my breath, think Dorothy [is] in you love xx David Stanley: I’m still not voting for Corbyn. Denise Karan: How is it not her business? She has a vote, it’s her business. Casee Malakian Leigh: She lives in England it is her business. It’s all our business. And Julie works helping to feed the homeless. What do you do? Neil Riley: I work looking after people with mental health to prevent them becoming homeless. If she wants to vote Labour that ok but she’s not go- ing to persuade me to, just because she’s on tv .. but well done to her for helaping the homeless. Pauline Fitzpatrick: Like Julie (Hayley) but sorry, no chance. David David Ainsworth: Get a grip. Labour is finished. Long live the Tories. Elizabeth Barnes: While I agree that it is not just about Brexit, we still need someone that is capable of negotiating, and I’m not convinced that other parties will get us the best deal for the future of our nation. If our country is not successful moving forward then it will affect everyone negatively. Sue Bolton: So eloquently put Julie!
