Have a run and lots of fun at sporting event

-

OLYMPIC Gold medallist Roger Black will be giving top tips to families who say they ‘can’t run’ at a major sporting event.

The champion sprinter will be running family masterclasses at the two-day GoFest event – backed by our sister newspaper the M.E.N. – which takes place at SportCity by the Etihad in Manchester on the weekend of June 24-25.

He wants people to give running a go, even if they aren’t sure its something they’ll enjoy.

He said: “I know a lot of families feel nervous about going to sports centres, it can be really daunting!

“That’s what’s great about GoFest; it’s perfect for families who aren’t too sure about sport – and that’s exactly what it was designed for.

“It’s all about trying new things, getting stuck in and having fun with your family.

“There is something for everyone at the festival and that’s what makes it so great and why my kids love it.”

Roger has been an ambassador for the event for the past two years in his local town, Guildford in Surrey, and is looking forward to going to support families.

He said: “I initially got involved as my kids wanted to go along – they loved it and it was great to see so many families supporting each other.

“I am really looking forward to bringing the event to Manchester.”

Top-quality coaches from Sale Sharks, England Netball, Manchester Giants, Salford Red Devils and Lancashire County Cricket Club will be there to give top tips and motivation.

Parents and youngsters can take part in as many free coaching sessions as they want from a multitude of sports, classes, runs and competitions.

There will also be lots of stalls, refreshments and live music in the early evening.

Latin carnival dancing is also set to spice things up at GoFest Manchester.

A brand new dance fitness class described as ‘zumba with a twist’ is also being launched at the family weekender.

Leaders of dance concept, SoSo, are set to teach festival goers a Latin Carnival dance routine and will throw in maracas for some added fun.

SoSo dance fitness is a totally new concept, combining a range of international styles such as salsa, Latin, Caribbean and ballroom into a one-hour session.

SoSo founder Katy Barrows wants the art of dance to bring families together at GoFest.

She said: “Our classes are suitable for everyone and our low impact routines will have you swooshing, shimmying and shaking your maracas.”

Delighted to be bringing the dance infusion to GoFest, she added: “Manchester should get ready to dance themselves happy.”

Tickets for the event are on sale now, with adults starting from £14 and kids just £7.

A full family ticket is £49.50, giving you access on both days of the event.

You can get tickets at www.gofest.co.uk.
