Poorly children at hospital had late Christmas

POORLY young patients at Accrington Victoria Hospital had plenty to smile about when they enjoyed a very belated Christmas party.

The picture was taken in 1966 by former Observer snapper Garth Dawson.

The same decade also saw 17-year-old Isabel Samuels (below) parade along a catwalk in a fashionable bikini.

GCSE students at Mount Carmel High School are pictured after th they organised a quiz to sh show off their business a and organisational skills.

Emma Whittam, Tracy Jo Jones, Peter Jackson, Dianne West and Lorraine Bridges held the event at Oswaldtwistle Conservative Club where a total of 20 teams took part and raised over £200 fo for Cancer Research.

A super swim in the e early 1990s by Denise Lawson helped provide £150 for home comforts fo for local servicemen and w women in the Gulf.

Denise’s 72-length eff effort at Hyndburn Sports C Centre, sponsored by m members of the Central Working Men’s Club in Accrington, brought in £100, and a further £50 ca came in from collection b boxes at the club.
