THOMAS CLOUGH

MR Thomas Clough, of Pendle Road, Great Harwood, died on Thursday, June 15, at Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 90.

He worked for Brooke Bond OXO where he was a foreman, in charge, for 25 years, until his retirement at the age of 64. His earlier jobs included a driver for various companies including Nori Brick and Walls Ice-cream.

He was a member of the Knights of St Columba and regularly attended St Wulstan’s RC Church in Great Harwood.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking and making steak and chips for his granddaugh­ter, watching films, playing snooker, drinking whiskey and keeping up with the latest technology.

He leaves son David, daughter-in-law Stella, granddaugh­ter Sarah, and Sarah’s husband Bond.

His funeral service will be held at 10am on Tuesday, June 27, at St Wulstan’s RC Church, Great Harwood, administer­ed by Father Clarke, prior to burial at Great Harwood Cemetery at 11am.

Family flowers only please, however donations, if desired, suggested to East Lancs Hospice.

DAVID MILLS GRIFFITHS

MR David Mills Griffiths, of Kingfisher Court, Oswaldtwis­tle, died peacefully in the Royal Blackburn Hospital on Saturday, June 17, aged 82.

During his life David enjoyed the outdoors, especially going camping and caravannin­g and was a member of the Caravannin­g Club. He also took pleasure in making his own home-made brew and listening to music.

David sadly leaves his dearly-loved wife Joan, his much-loved children Nigel, Janet, Davina and Debi, his dear in-laws Katy and Andrew and also his treasured grandchild­ren Ashley, Kim, Alisha, Olivia and his beloved granddogs. He will be very sadly missed by all his loving family and friends.

A celebratio­n of life service will be held at 3pm, on Thursday, June 29, at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

The family have requested for no black clothing to be worn please.

JAMES ILLINGWORT­H

MR James Albert Illingwort­h, of Dorchester Avenue, Oswaldtwis­tle, died peacefully in the Royal Blackburn Hospital on Thursday, June 15, aged 88.

Throughout his life Albert was a hard worker; he started out at Accrington Colliery and was employed as an electricia­n for many years. He later worked at Huncoat Power Station for a further 20 years.

In his youth he enjoyed going with his family on holidays and outings to Fleetwood. Albert was very much a home-bird but he did make the exception by taking occasional trips to the Isle of Man to watch his beloved TT Racing, and in his younger years even competed in the circuit there. He also enjoyed flyfishing, darts and going for a pint in the Willow Mount Club up until it closed.

Albert will be sadly missed by his family, friends and neighbours. He was a much-loved uncle to Mike and his wife Tina. He also leaves his dear nephew Andrew.

A celebratio­n of life service will be held at 9.45am on Wednesday, June 28, in the Barton and Hallworth Service Chapel at The Old Foxhill, 136-8 Union Road, Oswaldtwis­tle, prior to interment at Accrington Cemetery.

MARCIA SINKINSON

MARCIA Maria Sinkinson, of Middleton and formerly of Read and Accrington, suddenly passed away on Sunday, June 11, aged 46.

Marcia loved animals and spent much of her time walking her Patterdale terrier Twinkle that she rescued and had a character of her own.

She spent time caring for her budgies and garden. Marcia also loved listening to music and dancing around her home.

She leaves a loving partner Billy, a much-loved daughter Holly Thompson, parents Delia and Tony, loving brother Michael and nephew Lewis.

Marcia will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.

Her funeral service will be held at Accrington Crematoriu­m on Tuesday, June 27, at 11am and will be led by Mrs Bea Foster.

DAVID SERGEANT

MR David Edward Sergeant died suddenly and unexpected­ly in Clayton-le-Moors, on Wednesday, June 14, aged 73.

He was born in Preston to Helena (Ena) and William (Bill) Sergeant (both deceased).

He leaves his children Mark, Michelle, Viviane, Chantelle, Shaun and Victoria.

Much-loved grandad of Andrew, Michael, Sarah, Adele, Adam, Nicola, Gary, Lucy, Josh, Shaun and Dillan, he was also loved by his greatgrand­children, who fondly named him Grandad Whiskers. He was a much loved brother of Brian (deceased), Trevor and sister Olwen, daughter-in-law Janet and father-in-law Mark. He was a wonderful uncle, cousin and friend to many. He leaves his best friend Peter too.

David was a retired senior support worker to the deaf in Preston. David lived in the Preston, Leyland, Chipping and Little Lever areas before settling in Clayton-leMoors.

He loved to travel to Scotland, reading books and newspapers. He enjoyed listening to all music, especially classical and singing church hymns. He had a strong Christian faith and was a regular worshipper at St Mary Magdalen’s Church in Accrington.

He enjoyed going to Whalley Abbey and was a collector of model cars and buses. David was well-known for his tireless charity work which began at Preston Royal Hospital and later he became an active member at Chorley District Hospital.

He was a member of Toc H based in Great Harwood in the 1970s whilst he lived in Clitheroe, and he has been a school governor in the South Ribble and Hyndburn areas. He had a great sense of humour and a kind, caring nature and he loved visiting all his family. He will be sadly missed by many.

David’s funeral service will take place at St Mary Magdalen’s Church, Accrington on Wednesday, June 28 at 1.15pm followed by committal at Accrington crematoriu­m at 2.20pm.
