Stanley ground buy bid

- SHELDAN KEAY

ACCRINGTON Stanley are in talks with the council to try and buy their Wham Stadium outright.

The football club currently leases the ground, with bosses now approaching the council to try and purchase it fully.

Stanley are keen to develop the club in order to try and increase its appeal to the local community.

Reds manager John Coleman has previously spoken about wanting more and more fans to attend matches at the stadium to help get behind the team and make it a difficult place for opposition sides to come to.

The Wham Stadium was built in 1968 and has a capacity of just 5,057, meaning it has the small- est capacity out of all the teams in the English football league.

Meanwhile, Accrington’s fixtures for the forthcoming 2017/18 League Two season have been released.

The Reds get their campaign underway with a home match against Colchester United on Saturday 5 August.

Stanley’s final match of the season sees them head to the County Ground to take on Swindon Town on Saturday 5 May.

Accrington will be hoping to improve on their 13th place finish last season, where they won 17, drew 14 and lost 15 of their 46 matches.
