YOUR ARTIST
What prompted you to become an artist?:
I have always enjoyed art since childhood. I guess I just rediscovered my passion for it.
How would you describe your style?:
I suppose modern realism.
What is the best thing about Accrington?:
The people make this town great and some wonderful buildings. We are also blessed with beautiful scenery on our doorstep.
What is the worst thing about Accrington?:
Its decline from past glory but I believe there are enough people with passion and determination to make it great again.
Where is your favourite place in Accrington?:
Oak Hill Park, Haworth Art Gallery and the surrounding countryside.
How long have you been an artist?:
I have returned to producing paintings in the last three years.
What do you enjoy most about doing this?:
The enjoyment my pieces bring to people and the variety of challenges.
Who are your main artistic influences?:
Too many – Max Ernst, Monet’s use of colour, Stanley Spencer and more...
What’s the most memorable piece that you have done?:
A footballer signing the portrait I painted of him in his team colours was a lovely gesture. Unfortunately he moved club soon after!
What’s the most challenging part of being an artist?:
Finding enough time to complete work (my girlfriend is very patient).
What is your creative process like?:
I tend to binge work then leave things alone for a while and try to return with fresh eyes.
If you could produce an artwork for anyone?:
Most of my heroes sadly are not with us any more but I am honoured to produce work for anyone really.
What/who is your biggest inspiration?:
My family and friends are so supportive and I thank the people who have faith in what I do. I am happy to say my children enjoy art too, which is inspiring in itself.
Diverse Attractions is the title of Adrian’s current exhibition which will be displayed at Accrington Library on St James’ Street from Tuesday, August 8 until September 2. Adrian has exhibited locally in libraries, galleries and colleges including Best of Britannia show in 2016. The title Diverse Attractions was chosen because the work featured is a mixture of portraits, landscapes and illustrations. There will also be work depicting Accrington and the surrounding area featured, creating a truly local flavour to this event.
