Clark hopes to reward Stanley

- SHELDAN KEAY

JORDAN Clark insists he will reward Accrington Stanley for his new contract by scoring even more goals this season.

The 23-year-old winger has signed a new deal that will keep him at the Wham Stadium until 2019.

The new contract comes after he impressed over the past 12 months, scoring three goals last season.

Clark now plans on scoring a lot more goals, and wants to get as high as double figures during the forthcoming campaign.

“I have high expectations this season. I got three goals last year and the aim is to improve on that and get into double figures. I want to deliver,” he told the club’s official website.

“I signed before the first week last season and it was hard as I didn’t know many of the players, there is a big difference for this season. I have had a full season here and a full preseason and we have got through it together.” Clark was also glad that the deal was two years rather than one, and believes that can help take off some pressure and make him perform better.

“A two-year contract secures my future, it makes you feel more settled and I am in the process of buying a house in the area,” he said.

“It means you can just focus on football and not worry, as you might with a one-year deal.

“I certainly won’t take anything for granted and, if anything, I will work harder as last season I did have a couple of games where I didn’t play and there is nothing worse than watching and not playing football. When you don’t play, it gives you a kick up the backside.

“Last season was enjoyable but obviously it was disappointing towards the end when we came so close but didn’t quite make it.

“Hopefully we can go one better this season.”

Stanley boss John Coleman was thrilled that Clark has a new deal in place, and has backed him to continue performing.

“I am delighted Jordan has signed a new deal. He came to us at the start of last season and has worked hard to earn his place in the first team,” he said. He scored three goals and will be hoping to increase his goal tally this season while providing a good number of assists. He is a lively and important member of the squad.”
