MARK DAVIES

-

GLENDA Woodworth nee Bacigalupo passed away on Friday, August 11, aged 82.

Glenda is the wife of the late Kenneth Woodworth and mother to sons Craig, Paul and the late Mark Woodworth, and grandmother to Lee Heelay, Andrew Woodworth, Stephen Woodworth and Joshua Woodworth.

Glenda was a keen watcher of sport, in particular snooker and football. Her favourite films amongst many were Three Men and a Baby and Beethoven I and II. She would laugh and chuckle with enjoyment at watching her favourite films.

In her working life Glenda was a manager’s and director’s personal assistant/secretary. She worked at Platt International for over five years before an industrial accident ended her career. Undeterred by this small setback, Glenda took great pride in looking after the elderly as a carer for Hyndburn Carers for over ten years until she retired.

Glenda was sought after by many elderly people who looked up to her, for not just her hard work, but also her keen interest and very helpful way she looked after all the elderly pensioners. There was no task too difficult – Glenda was always keen to get out of her way to help the elderly pensioners; she was sorely missed by her colleagues when she retired.

After retiring Glenda took a keen interest in looking after her garden, always ensuring all the weeds were dug up and rose trees were always pruned at the right time of year.

Glenda would go to the front door and always make conversation with anybody that walked past her front door. Glenda always had time for anybody young or elderly.

As the years passed, Glenda was almost house-bound, her walking ability or lack of it would not stop her going for walks. She would use her three-wheeler to help her get around. Glenda would enjoy her Christmas meal with other elderly people, it was an outing she would really look forward to. Glenda will be sorely missed by all her family, rest in peace mum.

A funeral service will take place at 10am on Wednesday, August 23, at St Anne’s Church, Accrington, administered by Fr. Stamp, followed by burial at Accrington Cemetery at 11.30am.

KARL HOLDEN

MR Karl Sidney Holden, of Burnley Road, Claytonle-Moors, passed away on Thursday, August 10, aged 52.

Karl was born in Blackburn on March 30, 1965, and attended St Sila’s School for two years until his family moved to Rishton, where he attended Rishton Methodist School. His years at secondary school were spent at St Wilfrid’s where he liked the building but not the lessons!

Karl’s jobs in life were varied. He was a talented chef, attending Accrington College and did work experience at Northcote Manor. He had his own video round, mainly in the Rossendale and Todmorden area, and his claim to fame was supplying videos to Sarah Lancashire. He did construction work, worked as a mechanic and could turn his hand to most things.

He had visited Austria as a boy with school on a skiing holiday and went there in 2000, spending the rest of his life in the Kitzbuhel area. He always said he arrived there after taking a wrong turning. On his way there with his friend Tom Stone, he visited Bosnia and was deeply moved by the devastation he saw there. In Kitzbuhel, he worked as a chef, soon becoming a popular member of the English-speaking community.

Later, he did eventing work in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

Karl was a ‘free spirit’ who enjoyed life to the full. He worked to live!

He enjoyed extreme and challenging sports such as pot holing, deep sea diving and bike trialling and in Austria, mountain biking and skiing. He had a wicked sense of humour, a quick wit and would help anyone.

Life was for living in Karl’s world. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, both in England and Austria.

Treasured son of Kevin and Margaret, he was much-loved brother of Claire, Chris and Elizabeth, also a dear nephew, cousin and good friend to many.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, August 21, at Accrington Crematorium, administered by Peter Cox, followed by cremation.

Family flowers only please, however donations, if desired, suggested to East Lancs Hospice or Macmillan Nurses c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queen’s Road, Accrington.
