‘We shouldn’t wait until half-time to get ourselves going again and that’s unfortunately what we did’

JOHN Coleman said his side paid the price for switching off in the first half against Yeovil as the Glovers put three past Accrington Stanley in a dizzying 15-minute spell.

A subdued Coleman said: “Give Yeovil their due for half an hour they had a go and in that half an hour they won the game.

“We shouldn’t wait until half time to get ourselves going again and that’s unfortunately what we did.

“Yeovil dug into reserves and showed a lot of energy in that half-hour spell.”

Accrington came into the match off an impressive 3-1 victory against Colchester and were facing a Yeovil side who had just been humbled 8-2 by Luton in the opening weekend of the season. Coleman’s team looked to be carrying on that form and quickly took the lead in the 12th minute after Kayden Jackson capitalised on an Artur Krysiak slip.

Stanley took their foot off the gas and Yeovil threatened to capitalise almost instantly, with Otis Khan and Connor Smith testing keeper Aaron Chapman from distance. The equaliser eventually came after 27 minutes when Olufela Olomola fired past Chapman.

Things went from bad to worse for Accrington and in the 38th minute Francois Zoko gave the home side the lead after he poked the ball home after a Chapman save.

Less than a minute later it was three after a horrible mix up in the Stanley defence left Olomola free to shoot home past Chapman who was racing off his line.

Coleman was critical of home to them all week that it wasn’t going to be easy, that it was going to be a game that was going to be won very much in the mindset.”

Defeat at Yeovil cost Stanley their unbeaten start to the season and left them ninth in the early stages of the League Two table.

Stanley only won seven times on the road last season, taking 28 points from a possible 69 and Coleman was concerned about the side making the same mistakes as previous seasons: “Too often last year we walked away thinking we were the better side but we never won, we don’t want that trend to continue.”

Stanley will look to get back to winning ways when they continue their campaign by hosting sec- ond placed Mansfield on Saturday.
