TIME TO SERVE THE PEOPLE

-

I SAW Miles Parkinson, a leader of the council, in Boots chemist here in Great Harwood on May 11.

I told him there was a large hole over a metre long and half a metre wide in the middle of the road as you turn off Glebe Street into Loynd Street.

He said that he would photograph it. Nothing has been done.

There are also about a dozen potholes by the kerb on the side where the houses are.

These holes are getting worse as each day passes.

Oh, and speaking of councils who are always on about fly-tipping but are guilty of it as well by leaving Lancashire county council wagons on the streets with the road tax unpaid – one was left on Glebe Street for a few days in July.

Along came a road enforcement van and a man put a large yellow clamp on it.

Also a large card left on the windscreen that said ‘untaxed vehicle.’

It costs £160 for each vehicle to be unclamped.

Lancashire County Council [is also wasting] money by removing the trees in front of the Market Hall to make it used for events to bring more visitors to Accrington – but it won’t.

Last week, there was a market on Broadway with stalls selling jewellery, hog roasts and other items but it did not bring in the crowds.

There have been birds of prey etc on some days, and also a week of children’s small fair rides with space left at all these events.

No extra visitors through.

It will not make a bit of difference spending over £1.5m to make the space in front of the Market Hall available for these events, and they have cut down the two lovely trees that gave the area a touch of countryside.

It’s time the council got their priorities right and paid road taxes like they should – and served the people who elect them properly.
