ST Nicholas CE Primary School
has achieved the Silver School Games Mark Award for the 2016/17 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a governmentled scheme launched in 2012, which is run by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools which develop competition in the school and the community.
Pupils’ achievements include winning the area dodgeball and junior football competitions, entering more competitions than ever before and allowing children to participate in a wide range of sports.
Links have been made with organisations in the community, such as Accrington Stanley, where players have delivered physical sessions and classroom-based workshops on healthy lifestyles.
The children have also been given the opportunity to work with sporting professionals such as Great Britain Olympic boxer Natasha Jones.
St Nicholas sports leader Simon Sherry said: “It has been wonderful to see all the above impact on the sporting success of the school.
“This year has seen the school win two tournaments in dodgeball and football. This success has inspired others to want to follow in their footsteps.
“Next year, the school hopes to develop further and achieve the gold award for sport - that would really be something.
“I am immensely proud of the staff, but above all, the children this year.
“They have developed a determination to succeed in sport and also in everyday life. They can all be very proud of themselves for achieving this award.”
