Don’t Skip this concert by fab folk trio

- YVONNE ROBINS

SING along with the Skip Pickers and create pretty parrots at the Haworth Art Gallery... ON Sunday, September 3, there will be a fantastic treat for all music lovers with our free concert with the Skip Pickers.

The Skip Pickers are a trio of experienced musicians comprising husband and wife, Laurie and Carol, together with bassist Bernie.

Carol is the energetic, charismatic lead vocalist and plays fiddle to a high standard.

Laurie provides guitar and vocals and is regarded as a major exponent of the fivestring banjo.

Not surprisingly their music includes a variety of styles from country bluegrass jigs and reels through to jazz, folk and blues numbers.

Their influences are also varied – they cite Bessie Smith’s blues standards, Flatts and Scrugg’s bluegrass combined with several traditional folk songs from Britain and the USA.

All in all, something for everyone.

So please be early to reserve your seat!

This is a free concert and all donations go direct to the performers. We ask that people arrive early to secure a seat.

Drinks and refreshments maybe purchased from the Gallery Kitchen Bar.

In addition, on the same day between 1.30pm and 3.30pm, children and families can join our popular workshop leader, Mrs Maker, to create their own paper mosaic parrot! This is a free, drop-in workshop and there is no need to book – just turn up.

The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday from 12 noon to 4.45pm, Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 4.15pm, closed all day Monday, free entrance and parking.
