Shrews interest had me unsettled - Omar

breaking through on the counter, where they found Rodriguez inside the box, who killed the game off with a neatly taken low drive.

Mekhi McLeod replaced Jackson. The breathless substitute forged a way through Allan Nyom and curled a shot towards Myhill inside post, forcing him to scrabble it out.

On the counter, substitute Billy Kee brilliantly sliced a pass to centreback Tom Dallison, who was acting as an auxiliary attacker. Further up the pitch, the defender exhibited his ability in front of goal, as he neatly took the ball in his stride and arrowed his shot across Myhill into the net, leaving Stanley with a consolation for their efforts. OMAR Beckles admits he was slightly unsettled at Accrington Stanley over the last few weeks before his move to Shrewsbury Town was confirmed.

Beckles has left the Reds this week to join League One side Shrewsbury for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old has revealed he was aware of the interest earlier in the season, and that made things a bit tough during the end of his Stanley career.

“I think I heard about the interest just before the season started and obviously you try your best to be as professional as possible. It’s a bit unsettling because obviously I want to play as high as I can, so when that opportunity came I definitely didn’t want to turn it down,” he said. “I’m happy to be at Shrewsbury and part of this new challenge. They’ve started off well, so hopefully we can continue that. I am up for the challenge.

“A big thank you to everyone involved at Accrington Stanley. I appreciate the opportunity they gave me which I’ll be forever grateful for.”

Accrington boss John Coleman would have preferred to keep Beckles, but admits it is tough when the player is keen to go.

“Shrewsbury have been interested in Omar for quite a while and, after talking to the player at length, he decided he wanted to go,” he said. “With him only having a year left on his contract, we had to take several things into account, the main factor being his desire to play somewhere else.”

LANCASHIRE LEAGUE CRICKET

IT was a good weekend for ACCRINGTON Cricket Club after winning both of their Phase Two B Division matches in the Lancashire League.

They began the weekend with a match against local rivals RISHTON, with Accrington winning by 25 runs at Thorneyholme Road.

Due to rain, the match was reduced to 42 overs per side, with Rishton winning the toss and deciding to field.

Accrington finished on 144-5 at the end of their innings, thanks mainly to Jake Clarke (56 not out) and Andy Greenwood (45 not out). Matthew Lambert was the pick of the bowlers for Rishton with 3-27.

Rishton never really got going in their response, and despite decent scores from professional Craig Smith (39) and Richie Fox (25), the team finished on 119-8 and fell short of their target.

Ross Brown was the star bowler for Accrington, as he took 5-24 to help his team come out on top.

Accrington’s second match during the double header weekend saw them earn a 67-run victory against Colne at the Horsfield.

Colne won the toss and put Accrington into bat, but it proved to be a costly mistake as Accrington professional Sachithra Serasinghe hit an incredible 171 not out.

He was helped by Simon Hanson alongside him who made 60, as the team finished on 278-3 at the end of their 50 overs.

Colne had a good go in reply but ultimately fell short, finishing 211 all out and handing Accrington the win, meaning they are now up to third in the Phase Two B Division table.

Rishton’s second match saw them emphatically beaten by 173 runs against another local rival, ENFIELD.

Rishton won the toss and decided to field, but it turned out to backfire after Enfield finished on 303-9 at the end of their 50 overs, thanks mainly to a score of 131 from 110 balls by professional Jonny Whitehead.

Rishton found things tough in response, and despite 49 from Bradley
